Thread: rear brakes coming on

Can you actually see smoke from the affected wheel? Does the wheel get hot (as they do when brakes drag)? Unless you have a sticking caliper piston or pad, there's nothing I can think of to make one rear brake apply itself.
How are the wheel bearings?

A sticking handbrake is usually due to oil on the linings.

Could be that this "drop of performance" don´t come from brake?
A Disco mate here in Argentina suffered from similar symptoms, and it was the wheel bearing. The parts were seized and from blue color when discovered...

i had thought about bearings but they were replace as well as seals about 3 months ago. and i havent been in any water since. i can see/smell smoke coming from the wheel, as well as the foot pedal goes hard with only a fraction of movement

i currently have this, and im assuming it has to do with brakes not retracting properly, which would make sense since its been sitting unused for over a year...

If you have ABS, the modulator could be at fault, OR one of the flexible hoses to the rear offending brake collapsing. ABS models have 1 hose per side to the rear, non ABS have 1 flex hose only to the back.

non ABS here, so you mean the line could be 'collapsing' and cutting itself off due to sucking pressure from master cylinder ?

though that being said i just remembered when this started happening to me on big trip and had to stop, take wheel off and pry pads apart, it was very stiff so i think in my case its ceasing pistons.

No, the hose collapses internally, lets fluid through when pedal pushed, but not enough to allow the fluid to return under its own when pedal released. To check this theory crack the bleeders at the rear calipers and see if the brakes release.
