What tyre size can I fit on with 2" lift

Hi all, I'm new to this forum but have found it a great sauce of info. I have been setting up my 1996 V8 D1 to head bush. I have curently got 235/70/16 all terrain BFG's and can get lots of places but centre the diff on some rutts. I was wanting to know what a good size tyre to fit with a 2" lift. I been told I may need to nick the back of the guards to stop scrubbing which I dont mind. I have a spare set of 16" rims to put tyres on. Also I dont want to change diff ratios at this stage so still require it to perform ok with the tyres size fitted. Any info will be appreciated.

    Thanks, David.

I had no problems with 7.50 R 16's when i did a 2 inch lift. But its a case of buyer beware, not all tyres are shaped the same and some tyres do rub where others dont and some 2 inch lifts arent really 2 inch lifts.

The biggest tyre you could fit before having to go with a body lift or major guard hacking, are probably 265/75/16's, or 235/85/16's they are both a similar hight it's just the 265's are alot wider
The only problam being is you might have troubles running standard offset disco rims, i'm pretty shore they will scrub on the radious arms
This can be fixed by screwing your steering stops out, but obviously you will lose some turning circle

    Hi Guys,

I'm running 255/70/16 Bridgestone duelers with a 2" lift on standard alloys no hassles. Lots of clearance all round, and have never had them make contact anything but the road, but, I will add that I'm running a fairly stiff heavy duty OME kit which may have something to do with it, as stated earlier, no 2 kits are the same. Looking at going a bit higher (75 or 85) next time round, but have also heard (as mine is a TDi) that going much bigger will effect on road manners, especially up hills, take offs and such.

I've been pretty impressed with them so far, clag up a bit quick in the sloppy stuff (as you would expect) but generally pretty good on gravel and rocks and one of the better on road AT's I've ever driven with.

Let us know how you get on.

Thanks for the info so far guys. Have also been refered to a few other sites for info, eg Les Richmond Automotive and D2 forum.

I think I'm looking for something around 235/85/16 or 265/75/16. I do like the sound and looks of the wider tyres but still a bit concerned about scrubbing and steering lock.

Let me know if it is a real concern.

It does not look like performence is of concern as it is a V8 Auto. Also if I need to do any real towing I can swap back to standard. This car is going to be my toy so I think once I put bigger tyres on I probley wont want swap tyres.

    Thanks, David.

Im running 265/75/16's on my disco with a 2in lift and a gaurd trim. Anything over 30in tyres will need some form of gaurd trim. But you can trim the gaurd behind the wheels both front and rear and they will fit fine.

I had 265/75 on my last D1, needed to cut the rear gaurds, adjust seering stops & bend the wings in on the ARB Bullbar. No big deal really!
This time Im Tossing up between those & 235/85 which should tuck bettter & perhaps I wont have to adjust the steering stops as the tyre is 35mm narrower?
I do like the looks of the wider tyre, balance wise & perhaps they would ride slightly better at Hiway speeds?
Its proly about as big as you,d wanna go without changing the gearing. Its not tooo hard to tolerate.

I tried a set of 235/85's on my d1, they rubbed abit on the radious arms so you will most likely need to adjust your steering stops, will only need minor guard trimming

Does anyone have any pictures, procedures or advice on cutting the guards. I have seen one some time back but dont want to go in blind and do a butcher job.
    Thanks, David.
