As a fellow 95 Disco tdi owner, there is something that might be a good idea to check, but it's a little involved: Crank pulley and woodruff keys. If the crank has some gunk in the thread or the bolt is a little stretched or just not torqued up right, the crank cog slops around a little and throws the timing out - hence the loss of power. I know it takes a bit of effort to take it off (And the timing case cover) and inspect it, but if it isn't watched it can ruin the crank.

I know this the hard way.

The good news is that if caught early, the only thing ruined is a woodruff key - $2. And to ensure correct torque on the crank bolt, the solution is to use a big HT washer to provide a couple of mm clearance.

As to timing, behind the AC tensioner you can adjust the timing a little - a 11mm drill with a 3/8th (9mm) shank will put the timing spot on in the middle. Remember to smooth it down a little with emery paper and wrap the sharp edges with tape.

    That's my bet anyway.

    Goodluck

Today coming home after dropping the missus off to work i opened up the bonnet and noticed that there is diesel fuel coming out of the metal injector lines from the top of the engine. im thinking the pipes are not sirtting properly in the injectors so will check them out when she cools off, has anyone else had this problem?

i also have a second hand pump coming in the mail thanks to rangieman and soon as she come will throw her on. s there anything special to look out for??? i know it will have to be timed up but can i put it on???

    cheers simon

You'll need the locking tool for the inspection port unless you remove the whole cover and retime it

Joker I'm in Richmond if you want a 95 300tdi to have a look at? Mines got about 272k on the clock but it drives well (except for a lump in one of the tyres that I have to get changed.. PM me if you're up for it?)

    Cheers,
    -Adam.

    G'day all,

well i fixed the leakin diesel problem, the injector pipes/lines where not sitting properly in the injectors so i just held them there until i tightened them up and all is good.

But still having power problems....thanks for all your offers to help out just in the middle of looking after my dad who has MS and withthe kids as well running around its hard to find some free time and when i do its on the bloody truck lol.

Now trying to eliminate another problem here which is the throttle cable. Was told to unattatch it from the throttle linkageand see what it does. pulled off i pushed on the pedal an pulled the cable in fine, en pulling it out from under the bonnet it was me what hard to pull out, another ng i noticed was when pedal was pushed down the throttle cable would bend where its attached to the throttle linkage, is that normal?? it ust seems like when its bent it doesnt pull..

    cheers simon

In those pics are you operating the throttle pedal or manually turning the pump where the cable attaches.

The reason I ask is because the cable "pulls" and there is no way you could get a kink like that in it while it is under tension.

Whereas if you "push" the cable it will bend. They are not designed to be pushed.

I am assuming in the pics the cable closest to the top of the pic is the throttle cable and the lower one is the kickdown for the auto trans.

G'day mate I'm under the bonnet doing it from the throttle linkage but I got the missus to set on the pedal from inside of the car and it pulls in ok but when she releases the pedal it comes back up but hesitates alittle then goes all the way up if that makes sence.
