Rear Window Problems and the Window Lift ECU

Can anyone enlighten me as to where to look for an intermitent fault that stops rear windows from operating ? They never work from the door switch but most of the time from centre console switch but even then only after car has been running for about ten minutes . series one tdi 96 if that helps .

Go behind the glovebox and disconnect-shot of wd40-reconnect the window lift ecu. I was posed the same problem on a 4 door, and even though the switches/interlock/fuses checked out, it stubbornly refused to work until I wiggled the ecu.
Yet on my 2 door, I 've never had a problem with the windows- go figure.

The control unit under the dash passenger side has to be removed and resoldered.

Don't panic. It is a 'normal' fault with these things and an easy fix.

There is a dry joint on the circuit board.

Search this on the forum and you will find colour photos for the whole process.

Thanks for the advice , pulled out the circuit board and looked okay but resoldered anyway and everything works again.

You will find that the solder joinrs in the link I provided are the exact joints that went on mine. So there must be thousands of Monday or Friday production boards out there.
