225/75 16 will be the most common size for remote area replacement.

Use an LT constructed tyre.

I am running 245/70 16 on my RRC with good results.

I have 265 70 16 on my standard tdi no lift it does scrub but only on full lock when turning is perfectly fine when 4x4 ing or normal driving the tyres I have are desert duellers 694z A/T.

I'm in exactly the same situation as you, and just this past week have also been giving some serious thought to the options for my spare steelies.

At this stage I'm leaning toward the 245/70R16's (probably BFG AT), but I'm still not clear as to whether that size tyre will be more/less common than the standard 235/70R16's (Michelin XPC's) that I'm running on those rims at the moment.

Together with you I'm looking forward to getting further advice via this thread.

I am running 265/75/16 LT Cooper ST's on steel rims with a 2' lift. I found that i had to notch the gaurds a little and the turning circle has been mad wider as i have had to wind the steering stops out. We have just done Navrun at Wombat state park and we had no issues with hitting inner gaurds, steering or suspension at full flex.

Doug, the way I read it Millhouse wants to keep his Disco at stock height.

225x75xR16 or 235x70xR16 are both fairly common and therefore generally available in remote areas and neither will require any mods.
Generally speaking, a larger diameter tyre is more advantage than a wide tyre.

Also, if not already obtained, you'll need a set of wheel nuts suitable for your steel wheels.

Check the markets. I have some great tyres in the size that you,re after.
They,ve been in there for quite a while now, without even a nibble which makes me very negotiable. Only prob is Im in Melb, but we may be able to work something out. Someone will eventually pick these up for a very good price.

215.85x16 are now like hens teeth in the country, as they were never fitted to a Toyota.LOL I was looking recently and very few makers still make them. GT radial is one.

205x16 are still around as there are lots of old Hiluxes out there. What about Bridgestone D694 LT 205x16. I am considering these for my RRC after my 245.75x16 BFG ATs wear out. I met quite a few in the Kimberleys who swear by tyres with high sidewalls, one of whom had changed his hilux to 15inch rims to get the high aspect ratio.

Any sizes except 265.75x16 will be harder to get as Landcruisers /Patrols take around this size.
