The 4HP24EH might handle the LS1 as its rated to just under 500Nm, but the shifting will be all wrong for that motor, especially considering it revs harder than a Rover V8. Mind you there are computer over rides, but that probably makes is too many $$$ as you say.

sounds about right rovercare, me and a mate lifted mine manualy, it was friggin heavy tho,,, we put a chain on and a log through the chain, then put the log on our shoulders to lift it into the trailer, we had to do it this way because the guy i got it off forgot to mention he had no lifting gear.... not something i would like to do again but it wasnt much heavier then the partly stripped p76 motor we also lifted by hand.

Yea, they are light and when you have one stripped down you can see further as to why, tiny rods and bolts, no skirts on the pistons, zero deck, there is no excess anywhere..........and no room for bluepriniting

When's your rocket going to be moving?

Good choice that requires minimal modifications to other drivetrain parts. Depending on your cam you should be able to get 260 bhp and 310 ftlb relatively easily, which will make the Disco go quite well.

And there's always potential scope for more later on if you want it with changes to the ignition, better breathing heads, Tornado chips and improvements to the injectors, plenum, bigger AFM, trumpets, throttle bodies, etc (ala TVR Power).

Thank you Gentlemen regarding the all the info on engine weights etc.

I would still rather go down the path of one of the SA recoed 4.6 engines they sell for what I consider is a very good price, given that the engine has a decent cam fitted to it. They fit the good none slip liners and provide a chip for the fuel injection and it all bolts straight in without any fuss or engineering hassles.

Horsepower isn't everything, however having said that having quite a bit more then what a standard tired 3.9 delivers would be a really good thing.

    Merry Christmas,
    Terry

It moves in and out of the shed all the time, sometimes in larger peices some times in smaller peices

As expected with something like this though its taking friggin ages the engine conversion is just a small part, if it was just the motor swap going on i think it would have been done long ago, at the moment engine is still on the stand, the adapter plate i had for the gearbox to tranfer was slightly damaged by the previous owner because one of the holes(for the dowel on the transfercase) didnt line up correctly, which crushed the dowel and chewed out the side of the bolt hole, we fixed this on monday night so its all good to bolt back together, attach to the motor and swing it back in to the chassis.... then the fun part of making extractors starts, im still considering getting an exhaust shop to make them but my bank balance doesnt agree for now. The biggest hold up has been that im a tight arse and dont like to spend money on things that i can get cheaper if i wait or make myself.... Im still getting out of this conversion very cheap after all the stuff i have baught, dearest part was the motor at 1500 with all the bits and peices to make it go, at the end of the day the motor swap side is probobly costing me less then a 4.6 recoed motor is worth

So its still a long way off, i still havnt even started putting the new rear diff together yet, and have the fuel system to setup and electricals to sort out... but like you said, hopefully it will be a rocket when its down(atleast but LR standards )

WOO HOO they are back at work and going over it now. Will go in, in the morning to have a yak about it. Funny when I rang he asked umm do you do much 4wding? absolutely no point in having a highly modified vehicle and not use it. I think he is wondering about all the scratches down the sides of her.
