My disco hasn't died YET! but the same thing has just happened to my car..no idication of over heating...Ian left the car on tick over briefly came back water ****ing out everywhere. split expansion tank as well.![]()
Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......
just spoke to a mate who is a mechanic and he rekons that if it wont kick over its more likely to be rings he said a head gasket shouldent stop it kicking over
Unless 1 (or more) pots are full of coolant
it still seems to be revving high to me, at 110 it sits on 3k trying to get some answers but im just running backwards and falling over......oh na thats just what it feels like
makes sense im just hoping its something simple but with my luck ppffttt the whole thing will prob be kaput
well my drama so far has been two split expansion tanks......grrrrrr
we think the over heating due to it being after the car had had a run may be due to the air-conditioning fans failing....
we luckily got the expansion tank from the 90 and put that on no more leaks...however we got over flow in the expansion tank...and we think that may of been due to a possible airlock as we have parked it up and opened all the bleed screws and topped up etc taken it for another run....and touch wood it seems ok.
Soon as the garage is open its going in...to have the head pressure tested!!! wanna catch that bugger before a drama if its that...until then (18th Jan) we are really hoping we can limp it around.
sorry for the Hi jack Disco Mitch I just feel your pain at this precise moment![]()
these things are quite such a drama when you can nip it down the garage are they

Can ANYONE confirm if Disco Mitch should ask his mate to Drop the coolant
Then put a socket onto the crank and turn the motor in reverse to clear any water out thru the inlet valve .... Then use the starter motor to clear the pots of water, before the bores start to rust up??
Diesels aren't my thing ... and I don't know if reversing the motor will hurt it .... but any suspicion of water in the pots should be cleared out
Mike
May be I don´t have the complete information about disco_mitch's Disco, but usually the complete die and no start problem in TDI's is originated in the solenoid valvle connector. It usually rusts and suddently brings this kind of trouble... almost in south America
If an engine is running in the freeway and suddently stops, may be the coolant can make some gurgle-blurb...
My best wishes to all you for christmas (we are still waiting for twelve o' clock here).
Regards-
In my opinion is impossible to get water in the pots for a running TDI engine. The inlet air and the cilynder pressure is higher than the water pressure, then usually the gasket failure allows air to go to the coolant circuit, and not in a reverse way.

mitch if you need a truck to go away in up the beach you know where mine is.. also if you were planning on going up the allan with brendo on new years i was too , plenty of room in my disco..... you know how to contact me.
