Not so worried about the leaks out the bottom, its the leaks into the car that bothers me.

Well my 98 300Tdi Discovery WAS a great holder of fluids when i bought it 4 years ago with 300,000km on the clock but now with 330,000km on the clock things are beginning to leak... and quickly.

    1. Power steering fluid, it seems to leak as quick as i can top it up. There is also a lot of play in the steering box. Would i be best to replace the reservoir to pump hoses? as that seems to be the key area. And would adjusting the steering box help eliminate any leaking problems?

    2. Engine Oil, the main col-prate for this fluid leaking seems to be the vacuum advance i can see it seeping all around. Has anyone on here changed the rivets with bolts and changed the gasket? if so did you find it too be a successful job?

    3. It SOMETIMES leaks coolant... and sometimes it doesn't always had me stumped that one!

    Cheers, James.

Replace hoses if they leak. When you take the vacuum pump out, dissemble and deck the cover plate on wet and dry on a flat sheet of thick glass, then reassemble the mongrel thing. The cover plate deforms, and that's usually why it leaks and new they're poison $$ !!!!! Steering box - if the sector shaft of the box has axial/radial freeplay (bearings worn) then replacing the seals is a woftam. Consider a rebuilt box from a reputable reconditioner, say, National Power Steering or someone similar. Coolant leaks - check the reservoir cap and replace it if the seal is hard or there's any sign of tracking from the filler neck, and with tdi check the joint between the auxiliary mounting bracket and the engine block for telltale leaks from the pistol gasket.

I have been working on leaks in my disco to try to get her leak free, I have replaced brake vac pump, power steering pump, all injector lines, overhauled entire power steering system and put a new seal on transfer case face plate, it was leak free for a total of 7.5 days, then started leaking from somewhere else in the transfer case, tightened all bolts around it and it stopped for about 24hrs and now it is still leaking, defs transfer case as gearbox is not losing oil, just transfer case... any ideas on other seals/bolts that might need tightening?!?!

As I always tell people looking at buying a LR,

If the oil leaks stop then it's time to top up.

Love the clean floor, is that the kitchen or the work-shop?
