    Missing Bolt?

Last night I went for a drive and the car started making some groaning noises when I turned the wheel. I don't know if this is related but when I looked under the bonnet today I found the alternator belt loose and the alternator appeared to be missing a bolt.

I expect I need to replace this missing bolt. Do I need to get a special LR bolt or can I just get something at Bunnings?

you'll need that one , head down to a bolt shop as opposed to bunnings and they will sort it out

Sounds good, thanks. I'll try and work out the sizing unless someone chimes in tonight with the dimensions.

Use one of the bolts near it for a match.

It will almost certainly be an M8 bolt.

    I can't tell you the length as I can't make out if it's a 200 or 300 Tdi

Went to the bolt shop and got a 130mm M8 bolt and she is doing the job. Due to a lack of experience and confidence I'll get the first person I meet who knows anything about cars to check out my hanywork. Don't know if I should have a spring washer in there or not.

When I am in the vacinity of the mechanic who replaced the timing belt last week I'll drop in and ask why this happened.

Steering noise now gone and I'm very happy I can drive my lovely car again.
