Setting the handbrake tension was the fix for me also. Wouldn't have known it if it wasn't for this great forum. If the vibrations return I'll try the offical landrover fix that was posted in another thread.

    Cheers.

Problem: irritating noise, vibration, knocking of the engine from 2000 rpm & up. Has always been there but is getting worse. Discovery 2 with 185000 km. Checked/replaced all of the usual, drive/prop shafts, engine mounts, checked exhaust clearance, removed injectors, checked accoustic cover bolts, checked vibration dampers on crankshaft pully and gearbox. To no avail. Vibration can be felt in the seat, dashboard etc. At standstill revving the engine you feel it clearly so it must be engine related. Worse when cold (live in Norway with a harsh winter this time, so -15C was quite common) but always present even when at operating temperatures. Any suggestions are welcomed!
My td5 auto has 313,ooo on the clock... did the flex plate because it broke (no prior vibration) ... Vibrations started ...donut on rearshaft and uni...then front shaft out ...could find no fault... vibes were worse some days than others... .fuel pump playing up sometimes, fuel aeration was diagnosed...injector washers and seals done no differewnce...then pump cracked up totally....pump replaced hey presto no more vibrations... I am tedmpted to believe that is was the fuel pump ,eg; low pressure =aeration=engine misfire, creating rough running, vibration differing through a range of rpm. The x printer

The answer to my problem turned out to be so simple and easy to fix.
It was the plastic trims that cover the sills under both sides of the Car resonating at certain revs, just fixed the trims and the problem was gone for good.
Anyway, I eventually got so fed up with endless problems on the Disco 2 I dumped the thing and replaced it with a Discovery 2.
So much better, quiet, powerful, economical and trouble free.

Would be great if mine was as simple a fix - my trims disapeared years ago to be replaced by rock sliders and they don't vibrate (much to heavy for that!)

I think it might be a Freudian slip. Not too many people would want to admit to owning a Free****er, especially one with a creaking clutch pedal.

Creaking Clutch Pedal sorted itself after a few days and has now completley gone. No other problems.
Which is more than I can say for the endless Disco2 problems, Leaking Air Bags, Leaking Sun Roof, Faulty XYZ Switch on the Gearbox, 23 MPG, Gutless Performance, Oil leaking into the CPU Box, Faulty EGR Valve, advancing rust, etc etc. And the Car had only done 55K miles from new.
The Disco was a total bag of rubbish and the Freelander2 is far superior in every respect

A welsh troll. That's not something you see every day.

Yes, but have you tried going off road in a Freelander? You might as well have a Toyota Corolla.
Interestingly, rust does not seem to an issue over here.

    OT warning:

I'm no troll, but I too am quite disappointed with my D2. I should miss my previous HDJ80 with intercooler kit, but I don't (too much fuel). The D2 has more room and comfort than the 80. But all the little D2 td5 problems (vibrations, noise, oil leaks, wonky gearbox, switchgear, gremlins here and there, fuel mileage, low power) are driving me nuts after a year of ownership. I'm planning to sell it and buy a Touareg V10 or L322.

Just to be clear, I would rather be nibbled to death by a duck than drive a Freeloader, but D2 ownership does feel like that. I'm selling it before something expensive breaks.

    OT rant off.
