i guess its coz it cops the brunt of the blows.
i do get some wobbles in the steering wheel which may be related.
ill have to check it all out
a lot of times i wish something would just break so that i knew what it was !
Yes, started to come in around 90kph (2000rpm), also under load from around 2000rpm, going through the gears.
100kph and over was terrible, it's funny and maybe a coincedence but all my vibrations that I have had, have been in the front of the car, broken shock and loose bottom shock bolt, stuffed radius arm bush, broken diff, double carden joint, loose bell housing bolts, engine mounts![]()
Cheers Baz.

This may sound silly but i'll share my experience. My TD5 auto has a bit of vibration too. Stopped at the lights my uhf whip flicks like crazy...and at 100km/hr my watch band chatters.... I have just finished changing my alternator and have not got around to fitting the acoustic cover. Guess what? No vibration. I know that in the Rave manual it says something about an issue with a mouting bolt on the cover. Perhaps i'll keep mine off.
if your talking about the engine plastic cover,i leave mine off all the time at the moment for access reasons. but that hasnt helped me. thanks for the suggestion but i dont doubt it could you. i think there are quite a few things that could lead to noise as have been discussed.
btw catch-22, i dont think the goo has helped me. had a good drive and it seemed to be the same. i recon my gearbox feels smoother but that may be my imagination.
i dont know what a shudder sounds like but i dont think i had one
Hi all, my Disco Auto TD5 85k miles also has a "Rattle". It had a de-cat pipe on and I thought it was the flexi in the exhaust pipe so I replaced it. Still rattles. Now removed middle box and adjusted rubber mounts, rattle now almost gone. I did run the engine without the exhaust fitted and up to 2000rpm it sounds sweet, BUT from 2100rpm to the top I can hear a slight misfire type sound which is in the same rev range as the rattle. My thoughts are that either the TD5 has an inherent miss balance within that rev range or something else is causing the vibration. I invite one of you to drop the middle exhaust box down and see it you can detect a slight misfire type sound from your TD5. Look foward to any reply. Many thanks, Harvey in the UK![]()
exhaust removal check is definitely in the list of todo's. i also think i get same noise around 3k too.
thanks.
Just ordered Nanocom to try to trace misfire.
Hey guys!
I saw this thread when I was looking for a new propshaft - again.. This is what happened:
I have a Disco 2 2003 TD5 Auto with the original front propshaft going strong after 18000km. It had a mild vibration though but I could drive as fast as the TD5 could push it and the car was running super smooth. The mild vibration occurred at around 100km/h(60mph) and I wanted replace it because of the milage and to cure the vibration..
I searched around the net trying to find the right part, I was a little cheap to buy the TVB000220 part and was hoping to find someone that have tested the TVB000110 part. Finally I found someone on the net that had done what I had in mind. I ordered the TVB000110 and when it arrived I saw that it was a "Britpart". I changed the shaft and put 8 new bolts on and gave it a spin;
The whole car started to vibrate bad at around 120km/h! I tried to change the yoke angle 45 degrees (as on my old one) but the problem persisted. I have been driving it for 3months now (under 120km/h) and yesterday the centerball in the double cardan broke. The car vibrates, rattles and is undrivable.. After 3months?? Is it Britpart, wrong part or lemonpart?
Im buying the TVB000220 now, here in Sweden a rebuild cost the same as buying the part from England.
Question; What brand is the genuine propshaft? Is Hardy Spicer better than Britpart?
Anyway, to add my part of the discussion, see if you have another propshaft than recommended on your car..
By the way, I lived in Sydney 2003 and studied at UTS. I had a really good time and I would like to go back sometime!
Regards,
Carl
My cover rattles too but this is different to the harshness I get at 2250 to 2500 rpm. Most of my engine cover rattle is quieted with jamming some cardboard or foam in the oil filler flap prior to shutting it. My " harshness" gets better as the engine gets up to temp, is better in warmer weather and is better in top 4th lock up than lower gears for some reason. It is also a bit better I think after I clean the injector harness connection to the ECU of residual oil since changing it earlier this year (there is still some oil coming through)
