    I favour Strangys position

My camera is in the bumper in the middle of the O of Rover. A snapped snatch strap whacked and broke it. It is fixed, but I never use it anyway. Am I allowed call it a WOFTAM on here?

I'm thinking of having mine manually activated rather than via selecting reverse gear - has anybody else done this ??

I've had a couple of reversing displays that fit to the rear view mirror. In each case they came with two optional wires, one which you connect if you wish the reversing cameral/display to come on when you reverse, and one you connect if you wish to be able to manually operate the camera. I choose the latter because, when I go away, I'm packed to the ceiling in the rear and can see out the back. In traffic particularly, I like to be able to see behind.

Quick question. How did you get the wiring to the reverse camera and LCD screen?

Just got one and am trying to find the best way to route the wiring.

    Cheers,

    mx
In my case I have one camera mounted inside the rear window, same as mx5boy has done. I ran the wire along the inside of the window between the window rubber and the frame, kept in place by a dob of silastic every so often. From there, I drilled a hole in the panel above the slotted vent on the rhs and ran the cable through. You need to keep a loop sufficient to allow the door to open. I provide the power supply to the camera from within that vent space. From there, along the base of the panier cover, under the carpet around the wheel arch and along the slot under the doorway trim, up the side and into the A pillar trim, across above roof lining near windscreen and down to rear view mirror. Photos can be supplied if wanted. I note mx5boy seems to have run the mirror cable into the rear door frame, in which case you can (with some fiddling) feed it through the flexible wire loom cover and into the rhs vent space.

    Cheers

    Reversing Camera

    1. I mounted mine externally just to one side of the tow bar to the underneath of bumper. We don't ever wade so it is fine there. To be honest it is mainly fitted to avoid kiddies and pedestrians as well as assisting in parking. If you can see the tow ball in the field of view it is very helpful. After a while you will get used to the size of car behind's numberplate etc to judge distance.

I ran the cable through the bumper and up and through the back door across the rubber - eventually I will improve this. I then took the cable up the RHS rear pillar to the roof and pushed it between the roof liner and rubber all the way to the A pillar. I brought power up from the fusebox under the steering wheel, and earthed it there too. I then took those up the A pillar lining to meet the AV cable, and across inside the storage bin above sun visor and then exited through the little hatch above rearview mirror. I mounted the screen there by screwing it to the roof plastic part behind the hatch.

For power to activate in reverse, I tapped into the reversing socket in the lamp and took the wire down the inside of the rear edge panel to the bumper and to the camera. It is all a bit rough, but works very well, and I just wanted to get it going as it is a cheapie camera and screen.

It is great to have it on automatically in reverse as it is one less thing to do, BUT I often wish I could activate it manually as well to have a look at the following traffic, or the trailer etc.

    Good luck and best wishes

PS I can see the benefits of the inside mount, but I have been in light mud and heavy rain and it still works ok. I just give it a wipe every few hays or when I walk past.

Mine is in the same spot as Toombies. Works great. No one would notice and I doubt would bother stealing if they did. I have a 5.5 in screen which has 2 channel input. Chanel one is the default. Chanel one comes from the back of my tandem axle boat trailer and plugs into a video RCA fitting alongside my 7 pin round plug so when the Vagabond is on the back the screen defaults to a view behind the boat where the camera is some 25 foot behind the disco's rear. I can swap to channel 2 to check the coupling also. Channel 2 makes getting the trailer on a dream. The front of the trailer is so heavy a d also cause its a tandem axle it can't be moved and the ball has to be spot on. Both cams are wide angle to ensure no blind spots for kids.

    Cheers

Hi Scot, I'm looking into a similar reversing camera set up for the car and boat trailer, the trailer is 32 foot long with the boat on it, and i cannot see a thing, what screen did you use and where did you mount it, and what camera(s), on the trailer waterproof type. Any pics would be great, i need to do it sooner than later as the boating season is here,

PS. do you use the drop down land rover tow bar/ball set up or does yours go out of the rectangular holder straight. I need to raise my tow ball. to suit the trailer better.
    Greatly appreciate your reply
    Cheers Ray
