As to clunking noise.....I recently had the same, checked all the CV and was fine. Went to my LR guy and he thought it was the diff. We organized a new replacement and a time that I could be there for the half day (to learn), the pinion gear certainly looked warn, which I'm was told to be normal for a manual. Put it all back together.....and yeap the noise was still there. Checked the wheel bearing and all good but found that the Stake nut was loose by half a turn ( I think it called the sake nut..it has a chisel mark in it)...tighten it up and re chiseled it and now all good.....not sure if I've used the right terms and if not let me know and I'll take a picture....but for sure I had a clunking noise and it's no longer there.
