As said earlier, you re-program the SLABS ECU and tell the vehicle it is now on Coils (Nanocom, Rovercom or take it into a Land Rover specialist for this).

Remove the Compressor and plug and cover all the hoses and wires, tie them out of the way to the chassis rail or Compressor cradle
Leave the dash buttons alone, the SLS button wont do anything (the orange light on the dash will still come on as you push the button, but the system is inoperative).
You can leave the height sensors in place, they wont do anything either.

This way the SLS can very easily be re-instated later.

As for the pros and cons, its entirely your choice, both have their merits. . Mine is now on coils for a whole bunch of reasons I wont go into, although I did like having the SLS.

You also have to tell the BCU its NOT on air any more as well..............and "if" you leave the height sensors connected (plugged in) you will still get a dash light and warning chimes.

Not true UP, hope this'll be the only time I disagree with you 'cos what youve done to your blue D2 is awsome (except removing the fog lights ). So I chose my words and have checked my facts carefully.

For the coil conversion to work, only the SLABS ECU needs re-programming to coils, not the BCU aswell. This method worked ok for me, I get no chimes or dongs. Now if I press the SLS button (out of curiosity) the only thing that happens is the little orange light comes on, then goes off as soon as I release it again. Nothing else happens.

That is the only thing I can think of relating to the BCU, the orange light, is that what you are referring to?

The main reason is cost, I can get a coil conversion kit for about the same price as 1 single bag. cab it makes not a sound, except for the occasion when I jumped up and down on the tow bar and the bags came back up. I do very minimal towing and even less heavy towing, springs I'm getting are genuine so I'd like to think with normal driving conditions they'd last a little longer than 2000kms. Thankyou all for ur input, opinions & advise. Very much appreciated.

After all that, is anyone able to point me in the right direction for some instructions on changeover from bags to springs? I have the Rave cd, if it's in there, I've been unable to find it.
    Cheers again

    Hi Matt,

I too, think you're mad but here you go:

[ame=http://landroverforums.com/forum/showthread.php't=28258]SLS to Coil Conversion - Land Rover Forums - Land Rover Enthusiast Forum[/ame]

I just replaced my original Air Springs with new OEM (Contitech) ones. Purchased from Bookwells in the UK at 1/3 of the cost from LR here. And while I was there put in a set of Koni's. The vehicle now rides beatufully. It is a very easy job.
    Cheers

I replaced 3 !! in my factory bumper, and enough is enough lol........if the ARB wasn't coming, I would have cut the dam things off anyway!!!

REF the SLS :-well, "technically" we are both correct, how ever the BCU monitors several inputs ref the SLS system and controls some of the warnings, it seems it can be dependant on diff vehicles. When looking at the options in the BCU, there is a suspension type option, IE air or coil.........

So to disable it to the point its like a Vehicle that never had SLS the BCU needs to be told. According to "your" BCU, the car still has SLS because when you hit the button the Dash light comes on, on a vehicle that never had it, this would not happen.

Some seem to get away with just informing the SLABS,(cannot actually remember any configurable options in the SLABS tbh) but others still get the "odd" warning in certain circumstances, these come from the BCU, and only till that is re-configured do the warnings stop completely.

Do your SLS lights come on when the ignition is switched on ? (I think they "probably" do)

    Hope that makes sense.
