    coils or airbag

    hey guys and girls

i need to lift my disco as i found out last weekend and have wanted to anyway. i need some advice on options to go with i currently have airbags in the rear and found i can lift it leaving in the airbags 2 inches. however i have been told by others to do a coil conversion as it gives better articulation and gets rid of the airbags which will fail over time (as everything does i guess)

i also need some facts how high can i go before i have problems with castor, ACE, NSW Regs, etc

also can you recommend what you guys think is the best option to go with and recommend me some people to talk too.

    cheers

    dan

Contact Shane at Suspension Stuff and get a spacer Kit from Tombie2.
Get some new bags if you are concerned about the condition of the existing bags.

The Air bags are a better ride and the SLS speaks for itself. Rear suspension that always ensures correct ride height no matter what you have in the back cannot be beaten by coils. Direct comparison between my sons D2 on coils and mine on Air Bags leaves the coils wanting in all cases.

My 2 cents only and the next post will likely praise the coils as being the best thing. But properly maintained SLS (as any mechanical equipment) out classes coils anyday Do a search on SLS if you want suppliers etc. More info here than you could throw a saggy coil at.

    cheers

as im the next post im not going to praise coils in a D2
keep the SLS, fit the spacers get some dobinsons springs for the front.
the biggest thing with suspension is to do the springs and the shocks at the same time. no point using new springs and old shocks.

    cheers phil
ps SLS works better offroad than coils in D2's IMHO.

    I'll make it a hat-trick for SLS

For all the above reasons. Airsprings are cheap & easy to replace. The ride is better. When you load up, it will self level ... not drag it's rse.

At the first sign of a failing airspring, change 'em both, to protect the compressor from working overtime, and enjoy!

... and fit a front swaybar disconnect for offroad to get better articulation in the front. The works pretty good with SLS.

    Yep, SLS.

I thought I read somewhere on this forum that front disconnects are not needed with ACE??

i dont think the ACE system will opperate in low range, or is it under 7kph?
anyway its supposed to disconnect...as in the system dose nothing, the bars however will still be attached its just the actuation of the hyd cylinder that becomes open, so, if the cylinder has minimal resistance then disconnects may not be worth it for ACE D2's?

    cheers phil

I believe ACE D2's flex better at the front than standard D2's,,
