Got Microcat.

I ended up draining the diesel, no water, then cleaned all electrical connectors on the water sensor, and the mud out of the drain hole.

Then noticed that the thread on the sensor was damaged so no tight seal was being made, hence a bit of diesel weeping.

The cleaning etc. fixed the intermittent light, but was unhappy that no good seal, so bought a new sensor for 48$ plus tax, fitted that and now all perfect no weeping, light does what it should.

I have discovered now that owning an old D2 requires that every time you have a look at a problem, you are bound to replace something or fix something, but doing that will ensure that my 250 000 km D2 will do another 250 000 km

Dad has a late 03 D2a too, and is getting the light flash up occasionally while driving now.

What a great Post.

I recently bought a D2 and the owner mentioned about this intermittent light flash.

Then a mate mentioned about the release cap underneath the fuel filter and guess what? Drained about 1/2 a cup of water.

I'll be proactive from now on checking it every 5k-10k or so.

Mines a D2 2001 and it has it ,but got sick of it flashing and there being no water in the filter so just un-plugged it and cable tied it to the chassis..I check my filter every timeafter I fill up so it stays disconnected..

Water in the fuel, i think it is pretty warm in my fuel tank and i would say that the water would be condensing above diesel on the cooler surface of the fuel tank.
Would it not fall to the bottom of the fuel tank be picked up by the fuel pump and get trapped in the filter water trap at each cold start?
I notice that i get more water light flashing early on in a drive.
Does this make sense to any one?
Thinking about this the fuel returning to the tank through the fuel cooler must be at engine operating temps 90c+ so water in the tank must be close to flashing off as steam.

Yep Kev's right. My June build 2004 TD5 Classic does not have the warning light either. Just the little white plastic drain screw that is SO suseptable to damage!

I always carry a bolt in the coin tray for that exact situation, thinks it's an M8 from memory.
