    EGR Modification/Nullification

Is there a way of disabling the EGR valve rather than fitting a blanking plate or EGR bypass?
The reason being is for avoiding easy detection by prying insurance assessor eyes.
I was thinking of removing all internals/obstructions of the valve to aid airflow to the inlet manifold. But I am unsure of how to stop the flow of exhaust gasses without the blanking plate(as the blanking plate is visible to trained eyes).
If there is a thread dedicated to this, I have been unable to find it.
Just a case of trying to be devious really.

    Cheers,

    Jason

I've just made a blanking plate that bolts to the manifold end.
All the rest of the EGR is still inplace but gets no exhaust gas
If you make it right it'll look like a spacer only

What could you put in the pipe to stop gas flow?
Or weild the hole up if you strip the valve.
    Cheers, Kyle

One day I'll find the time to bore the centre out of the egr valve and fit a stainless sleeve in it.
I fugure that will sort it!

Where exactly do you fit the blanking plate for best affect? I am going to add this mod once my new remapped ECU arrives as it will also be a performance benefit.
Anyone got a pic showing the best location?

    Why???

Whats insurance got to do with an EGR removal kit?
Which, is hidden by the engine cover completely anyhow.

And, which cannot void insurance in any case.

The flow restriction of the EGR modulator is another reason for its removal. In the ZA TD5s didnt even come factory with EGR.

So are you suggesting blanking off both ends and remove the EGR pipework complete?
Are the blanking 'points' both the same size thus 2 of the same plates could be used?

I'm all for removing power sapping warm air out of the induction system!

BTW Tombie - check your email....I've sent you some questions

EGR is for emission control (reduced oxides of nitrogen) and is illegal to disconnect, but the chances of getting court are slim to none. I've disconnected mine (not on a LR) for the simple reason diesel exhaust gas is full of carbon and carbon is abrasive and will wear the engine out quicker. All I've done is just made a plate and put it in line so it still looks like it is still fitted. The blanking plate can go anywhere in the system it just needs to stop exhaust gas reaching intake.

The planking plug can go anywhere but I thought the best spot was at the manifild end.
Just bolts in with the pipe using the 2 allen bolts.
The only reason I did this and not a full kit was costs at the time, had the head off with a few other dramas to boot.

My D2a is EU3 emmissions compliant (has the cooler infront of the head).

Was quicker and simpler to just remove the EGR complete, and put the blanking plate on the EGR side of the little heat exchanger/cooler ... otherwise you need to replumb the water lines that go to/from that cooler if you remove it, and I believe sometimes the allen head studs in the manifild can be almost impossible to remove without destroying the head/snapping them off in the manifold! I've left the manifold to cooler pipe intact.
