MTZ's, i had radial claws and hated them, the MTZ's were far better for a general play thing![]()
As the heading suggests I am deciding on new tyres to replace the Maxxis Buckshot Mudders 245/75/R16 when they are worn.
I want aggresive tyres with side biters in a 285/75/R16, a big downfall of the current Maxxis. They will stay on the D2 all the time and go offroad generally at least every two weeks.
They get used for everything from highway through rock, mud and sand.
I know they are a big tyre for a D2, however I have close to 3" lift and will be cutting the guards etc. as well and the V8 should have no issues turning them.
What I have been informed:
MTZ is a nice all round tyre, reasonably quiet on road and good off-road.
CLAW noisy on road until about 80 km/hr, better mileage that the MTZ, better off road in mud and rock except slippery side slopes where the mud slides through the treads.

Silverstone 117 sports, don't have to think about it then , save some$ too
Have had both...
Claws
Better forwards in every way.. But not by much...
Very quiet for their design...
Very Good wet weather grip on road.
NO lateral grip on fast dirt / gravel - you will slide/drift. To prevent this you absolutely need to air down on fast dirt/gravel to around 24-26 psi.
MTZs
Excellent grip on 99% of surfaces...
Much Quieter, but still a little humm...
Very Good wet weather grip on road.
Excellent all round grip on fast dirt / gravel
Excellent clearing properties in mud, but not quite as good as the Claw.
I would happily run both...
Great tyre offroad, but absolute dog**** on road, shakes the whole car to bits and they are noisier than a WWII bomber. If you are deaf and enjoy a bad back massage then go for it by all means...
I run the MTZ's on a second set of wheels, great off road grip, quiet on road for a mud tyre and best of all no shaking at low speeds.

go with what Tombie said he put me onto the MTZ when i was running 33's awesome tyre ,then went to 35's trepadors
MTZ would be the first tyre i would get as they are awesome on all terrian claws battle on rock and and side slopes
cheers Kelvin
My vote is on the MTZ's or even the maxxis bighorn. I have been overall happy with mine on road and surprised by them off it.
Off topic a bit, I think new difs are going to be the next on the list with 33's and the v8 in there....
I have Maxxis Buckshots now and they clean quiet themselves well, but have no side wall lugs. The Bighorn does but also has a closer tread pattern. I am probably going towards the MTZ's.
Hopefully the diffs hold up, but if not it gives me an excuss to upgrade them and the axles accordingly.
