Left hand threads are usually only found on acetylene/LPG connectors, brush cutters, bicycle pedals and viscous fans. So I would assume RH thread everywhere unless there's a risk of rotation on a shaft. Don't look for complications where there aren't any.

it has a standard thread, turn clockwise to do up, anticlockwise to undo.
I have changed my own oil many times on my TD5....BTW I always put tape or gasket goo on the threads to make sure that it wont leak after filling with new oil, just a thought...
    enjoy the experience,

The sump plug is a parallel thread and the seal is achieved on the end face using a copper or fibre washer with the plug tightened to the correct torque, using thread tape or gasket goo is a waste of time.

    Kev..

Cannot move it lost, power, lost internets lost patience and started to burr the bolt a bit so did the next best thing with no power found that carton of Bundy that was in the fridge while it was still cold.

Just got power back on 30 mins ago so I will drop by all4x4 this week and let them undo what they did up and maybe get a new sump bolt as well.

Not happy but i will get it done.

I disagree, loctite 567 helps seal it up but also makes later removal easier.

Ooooo ... how tight is it ? Rounded the hex head ... Who did the last oil change ... All4X4 ?

Mine undoes with a 1/2" Ratchet + 17mm socket, and a firm nudge.

... Bundy sounds like a good fathers day fall-back plan !

Sorry to hear it didn't all go as planned

If your sump plug isn't sealing on the washer at the specified torque your doing something wrong. It's not rocket surgery. In thirty years I've never had a problem removing a sump plug from any vehicle.
    Maybe I've been lucky.
