    A hole dear Eliza.....a hole (TD5 bolt/plug missing)

    Hi Guys /girls,

I just bought a 2001 D2 TD5 Auto which I hope doesnt turn out to be a lemon. Its at least had the wiring harness fixed, but dont know about the oil pump bolt. Major service to be booked in and these things looked at. The amigos came on twice during the trip home so ill probably be performing 'option B' very soon.

One thing I noticed when i poped my head underneath is that it looks like filler/drain bolt is missing (see pic)

As my landrover expertees is only about a few hours old, can someone please answer a few questions for me:

    1. what is missing
    2. if it is simply a bolt, what size should i replace it with
    3. how (through what hole) and with what oil do I replace it with (owners manual non existent)
    4. Could I have done any damage to the (i think its the transfer case) by driving it 900kms home? - not sure how long it has been like that

Looks to me like the bell housing. it contains the torque converter, flywheel and a lot of air. The hole is for a wading plug to be fitted when you go through deep water. It also lets any oil leaks out to firm up your dirt driveway.

If you've got oil leaks, check the oil filter behind the turbo, most of these are put on finger tight, and when you see how hard it is to get to then finger tight is not vert tight most times..I have seen them put on with the old o-ring still in place and this will cause a leak as well..
    A place to start..

    TD5 plug/bolt missing

Yes! that is the Wading Plug,no problems, normaly left out unless you want to plug temporarily for deep wading.

An Owners manual for your model is available on the net,so do a search, has useful info re.lubs etc.

the 3 Amigos?,well, may need a T4 or similar read to see what comes up.
