Thread: D2 split fold seats (x2) in cargo area forward facing??

Still unable to lock seats down with plastic cover

    Hi All,
I hope you are well :-)

Well - a bit of an update... and hopefully some folk may have some other suggestions ??

We followed fatmans suggestion as per the link that was posted, however... that didn't solve the problem.

The problem seems to be with the plastic cover that is screwed into the cargo floor that the seats lock into as apposed to the locking mechanism - I think?!.

If we don't have the plastic cover screwed into the floor, then the seats lock into position fine so nothing wrong with allignment.

If we put in the plastic cover then the seats locking pin seems to be about 5mm short of engaging the metal bar to lock down. (This is still after having lubricated the locking mechanisms as per fatmans doc link)...

Falling short of shaving about 5mm of the underside cover off so it sits lower.... has anyone got any other suggestions before we go down that path?

    Appreciate the help...

    Thanks Lp

    Finally - two locked seats!

Ok - another update.... Hubby has finished putting the left seat in and it has locked down without a problem?!?!? - just the problem w/ the RHS.

After doing lots of measuring and comparing both sides, we've come to the conclusion that nothing is different from one side to the other as to how far locking pins, hooks, brackets all sit ...

In the end and after lots of 'mucking' about (applying WD40 to the locking mechanism on the bottom of the seat, pulling back and forth the belt release a gazillion times, having hubby sit on the seat while I try and release the pin and god knows what else we tried) ....seems that slamming the seat several times to lock it down has done the trick!

Thanks to everyone who has replied to this thread and helped out. The seats/trim/headrests on both sidea are all in - now we just need to sort out some additional air :-)

    Cheers,
    Lp

hahah - No I haven't, altho the bigger hammer equates to more damage on him - he always ends up doing something to himself LOL...

I've only attached these pics purely for 'reference' purposes for those contemplating putting an anchored seat in the 3rd row.

    2nd row = 1 rear facing + 2 forward facing
    3rd row = 1 forward facing (+ a spare for maybe a #5!! )

It can be done & hope it helps :-)

    Cheers,
    Lp

Not sure if using that metal ring is legal for a child restraint.

As far as I know, they are cargo tie-down loops, and may not be rated.

Best case scenario - you get away with it.

Second best - copper pulls you over & tells you off.

Worst case - it lets go in a time of need.....

I would hate for any of your little ones to be hurt.

It might be worth a phone call or email to the RACV & ask them.

    Hi,
Thanks for your post :-) ... I rang TRS where I got the seats from and had them confirm exactly how they were fixed (Rave manual doesn't tell you althought it strongly suggests to use them to tie down objects)....

I have been advised that they are bolted through the floor and are as he put it 'exceptionally' strong and that they are braced and use aircraft carrier bolts...

If they weren't bolted through the floor then fair enough i'd be calling the RACV. We had a look at them before we decided to use one for that purpose. Perhaps the anchor points are different in other models?

IMO those 'luggage anchor points' are probably going to be stronger than the provided anchor points in the rear of the seats on the second row :-)....

    Cheers,
    Lp

That bolt is AFU4180 & LR sell it for 5c (+ GST) so I don't think it's a major part of an aircraft carrier.

It might well hold up the girlie calendar in the ship.

If they are the same "in floor fitting" as the D1 then with the correct bolt, you wont shift them.

sorry LP,, never pulled the D2 ones out!
