    Disco 2 TD5 2004

    Hello everyone,
i am new to the forum and new to Land Rover.
I am currently looking at buying a 2004 TD5 with just over 120k.
They are asking $30,000 for it.

    My questions are:
Is it too much? it's from a dealer.
    What should i look for?
What problems would i run into and other things you might suggest?

The reason to buy this car is that i've always liked the LRs and specially the look of that model. My wife is pregnant and would be used to go away camping and for now, to drive down from Brisbane to Melbourne.

My number is 0421 964 738, any help is much appreciated,
    Thanks,
    Daniel

    Hi Daniel,

    Welcome!!!!

I reckon it's a touch on the high side. But I would say the guy knows what he's got. (The last - and arguably the best - td5 D2a, with quite low kms).

Make sure the 120k km service has been done as it's a big one.

Call the guys at MR Automotive in Redcliffe for a professional opinion. The are highly recommended LR specialists.

    all the best,
    Waz

There is a 04 Disco for sale in Brisbane with only 80km on it for around $30k. 40km less is a lot of driving however check the service history of both vehicles. Personally I would never trust anything a dealer said where as in a private sale you can talk to the owner. If you know the right questions to ask you can work out pretty quickly whether the car is the one you want.

    Such questions would include:

Where do you get it serviced?
Have you had all factory recalls carried out?
What have you had fixed or replaced so far?
    Three Amigos?
Can it tow a 2.5 tonne caravan? (The answer you want is I dont know!!)

For $30k you want a shopping trolley with a perfect service history OR

why not buy a petrol D3 for the same money?

Whatever you do have a good look around here in the forums. Many have asked similar questions so just use the search function

    Cheers

    Michael

    Gday Daniel and Welcome,
Seems on the high side to me, but check it has had the Injecter harness done, and the oil pump bolt checked,
Also see if it has a low level coolant alarm fitted and if not it should be on the top of your list if you buy any D2.
Do a search on here for previous post and known D2 faults
IMHO think you could do better, but im not looking for a D2a so not sure, but its getting close to D3 petrol $$ and I know which one I would Choose..

    Goodluck with your search

    Cheers Ean

    Too much!

2004 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY MY2003 Private Cars For Sale in NSW - carsales.com.au

Look around ... you'll get better, for less privately. Talk to the owner ... find out whether he/she is/was passionate about their Disco.

Search engine is your friend ... lots of info here.

    Best of luck!

    Craig

I would also say too much unless it is the HSE spec with ACE (Active Cornering System) and SLS (Self Levelling Rear Suspension).

If it is HSE with all features then the money might be about right.

    [QUOTE=Disco EMU;1340264]Too much!

C/mon DiscoEmu!! Daniel can buy a local car for $30K with 80,000k's or have another car transported interstate, unseen and unknown with the additional expense of transport from Sutton (ACT) only to make a saving of $1500???

    Where's your $$$ logic??

Daniel....check over the 1 in QLD and let me know if you want the 1 in ACT looked at. I'd be happy to assist.....if you don't want the Canberra car, I may buy it myself

FWIW ... we bought our D2a 02/2004 Classic Contry pack, Td5 Auto, last may (09). Has rear a/c, dvd, LR rubber mats, light guards, 7 seats, SLS, 120,000km ... $22,500.

Had to repair a failing front driveshaft, and an oil leak on turbo oil drain hose.

    It's only cloth trim.

$30k seems like a lot .... but, mine's insured for an agree'd value (by ins' co.) of $28,500.
    Kev..

    Going ... going ... almost gone ... GONE !! ... 2004 D2a Td5 Auto "Classic Country" Vienna Green

    2014 MUX LST with fruit
    2015 Kimberley Kamper "Classic"
