Microcat is the electronic parts catalogue. You can look for part nos. and the correct names by looking at the diagrams.
It's not always the easiest to navigate as some parts are not where you'd expect to find them.
Hi,
I have been doing some research and would like to know what I should have in my landrover (under the bonnet) wise since coming out of the factory...
I've come across an app called Microcat... however... what exactly will it tell me and how much information will it give me?
Can I just enter in my VIN # and if so, what information will it show me? Will it tell me I have/should have CDL/ACE/ - all those type of things etc?
Also, what information parts wise will it tell me is available and at what level of detail. Basically will it tell me the 'proper terminology' instead of just a part number?
Also, any pictorial information? If so.. what?
I already have the RAVE CD and am looking for more info...
Thanks
Lp

You can enter your VIN and it will tell you the colour of the car, seat numbers, stereo configuration, what material the seats are made from (Cloth/leather) - although I have found this detail to be incorrect regarding the seats. The frequency for the fob etc (315 or 433) etc. Pretty sure it will confirm the ACE as well. All this detail is on the same screen you type in your VIN. It's in one of the tabs at the lower part of the window.
With regards to the CDL the best way would be to view parts relating to the CDL and Microcat will highlight the part as not required for the car if not fitted. (Accruacy although is a bit hit and miss).
The more you use it the easier it becomes to navigate. In all fairness I cross check some of the parts from places like Brit-cars or BPUTAH as they both generally have the part number and picture on their sites. BPUTAH is better for pictures.

Entering my VIN brings up nothing. I sometimes wonder if overseas models are in the database.
There are errors in the data. For example, a year or so ago, I needed some info about the studs that hold the diff carrier as I wanted to fit a diff protector. I needed longer studs.
Microcat showed screw-in studs but a check of an housing with AndrewE showed the studs press in from inside the housing. So to fit the diff protector would mean strippjng the axles and diff carrier. This isn't as easy on D2 and P38A models as on the RRC, D1, Defender.
The diff protector still isn't installed.![]()

Maybe the chaps were on their lunch break when your's role off the line. I just assumed the person who entered mine had a big night the night before as most is correct.
The info is hit and miss but still better than nothing.
This might explain why when you speak to a LR Dealer they sound dumber than your average bear.

I'm trying to find justifcation for why their service is so poor not to mention over priced. Obviously not as a result of using Microcat then.
I can cross that off the list......if I had one.

Reading from post 1 through to 8 confirms that everyone thinks microcat supplies spurious information.......hence, is it worth taking this thread further?????![]()
The D1 diffs I've looked at use studs threaded at both ends. The studs screw into the housing. The diff carrier goes over these and a nut then follows.
The P38A housing has studs with a head (not unlike a wheel stud) which I assume are splined. They are pressed (or probably drawn) through the holes in the housing from the inside. The diff carrier fits over these and nuts follow.
These studs are too short to allow fitting of the QT diff guard.
Microcat shows the P38A uses the studs threaded at both ends.
