    ECU plug

    Thanks Ean.

About where you say - if I had a manual - is a plug on a lead coming from somewhere near the key in the steering column. See photo. Could this be the ECU plug? I thought this was just another extra (uninstalled) LR option lead coming from the ignition but ...

    Cheers,

Photos show under bonnet box relays R8 and R14 are not present - appears R8 is for ACE 'if fitted' but R14 shows a book. ANYONE KNOW WHAT R!4 is for and/or if necessary?

Also the under steering column lower relay - which from cover looks like the 'check engine' symbol with cross through it - is absent. anyone know whether it is the same as the adjacent 'door' symbol relay - which I tried putting there but it didn't help with car start anyway - and/or if important?

By now you're probably all thinking I deserve my problems - have pity. cheers.
Gday mate just a simple thing we had happen to our TD5 with same symptoms and had it towed to MR Auto's last year, it turned out to be the STARTER MOTOR fuse" it is located in the fuse pannel showen on this post (the 1 on the left) i can not remember the exact fuse sorry, it cost about 80c to fix, it may not be the same but hey what the hell it mat help

Thanks for the thoughts Mark and Deb but the starter turns the motor over fine. Problem is the motor shows no sign of wanting to ignite anything.

You are looking TOO hard. Without pulling any plastic off - it is right where Ean said - lower edge of the dash - about where your Left knee is, when driving - it's black & fixed into the plastic cover of the under dash - on the lower (lowest) leading & faces the driver - its all black & hard to see. about 35mm wide. Not sure how to explain & I don't have my car today - D2 TD5 has a stuffed fuel pump so I can't take a photo.

Also I think what markndeb is getting at - if the starter is using most of the power to turn, then the ECU gets upset because it has low voltage and wont start.

Maybe lot 22 is the D2 in the AAMI advert on TV at the moment -- in the river, reversing a boat down the boat ramp but ends up in the river.

Also Where are you - I'm in Monash - south side.

    regards
    Steve

    ECU connector

Fantastic - there the connector was and is plain as day, see photo for curious. Cheers. I'm in Campbell.

I've checked the big SM fuse and any others that looked doubtful. I've taken out the 'motor' labelled relays to see they're clicking on 12V.

I've checked the water pressure - the water overflow tube had snapped and I suppose if it lost water some time the ECU might have done well to shut the motor down. Can't turn the motor over by hand so compression is probably passable.

Finding a box to see if my ECU has anything to say is probably the next thing to do. Not sure how to check the various sensors such as the crank and cam but I would imagine the ECU would know if they weren't talking.
