cw&p gear set , which ones?

Hi all. I have ordered KAM 3.8:1 gear sets for my front and rear diffs. The vendor has asked if they can supply ashcroft instead at the same price . Does any one here know of the differences in the two ? Is one better than the other ? And should i wait for the kam gears instead? Thanks ..Bill

    Thumbs up

Cheers Kelvin, the 3.9 ratio actually suits me better and the price is better with the great basin ones too.

Either the GBR ring and pinions from Bill or the Ashcrofts will be a much better proposition in the long run.Kam have been known as a handgrenade, just waiting to detonate.

    freedriver,

what are you changing your tyres to?

If going from standard (235/70/16) to 245/75/16 then the Ashcroft 3.75 ratio is PERFECT.

If you're putting bigger tyres on then the 3.8 (or even 4.1 depending on how big) will be closer.

As for quality? No idea, sorry. I am keen to hear how yours goes, especially if using 245/75. I've heard you lose cruise control by doing this. Don't know for sure but would be interested to see how it pans out.

This is a useful calculator for working out ratios:

I would only consider the new type ashcroft ones out of the options listed above.

I will be fitting 275-65-18 mickey thompsons. they are close to 32". I think 3.9 will keep it close to stock gearing. I am also fitting true tracs front and rear. I use the disco mostly for towing and beach work and so far have had no trouble with the stock diffs but i would like more traction and need taller tyres for the sand . I could not survive without cruise controll .Does any one know if it will be affected?
