Answer to your question is yes
First step is to ensure your ECU board has a Mil Spec “Conformal” coating, These are applied by either dipping, brushing or spraying. Variety of materials are used such as acrylics, urethanes, silicones etc as well as different curing methods. Harsh environment specs for conformal coatings include military spec MIL-I-46058-C. Second step is to provide a robust and waterproof housing (inc waterproof plug connectors) asuming it is going to get wet at or above any point within the vehicle that you can practicaly raise it to.
Infortunately D2 ECU’s don’t appear to have as good a coating and housing protection as D1 ECU’s and others. The guys at Lucky 8 Offroad provide a good solution. Crank up your sound and check out their vid.

Also I've just installed an ARB Compressor under the drivers seat so will look at raising the relay for this which is currenty at floor level. Will post some pics of this on a separatre thread.
