I have come to the decision of buying an auto td5 for towing purposes. Today I test drove 1999 series 2 with 220,000 kms that had the 3 amigos on and very harsh vibration at 2200 rpm. The vibration was only at slight throttle load though. Full throttle seemed to make most of It go away and any rpm either side was very smooth. After 110 klms hr it was hardly noticeable even at low throttle load.
When the vibration was there it was quite audible as well. My missus was sitting in the passenger side and said to me during the test drive what the hell is that? Referring to the vibration and harmonic noise.
I have searched and searched for more info on this site and on the net but couldn't find any info on when or how this common problem happens ie. During light throttle at 2200 rpm versus what repairs fixed the problem.
The disco has great service history always done at a disco dealership and the vehicle is quite cheap. I'm also a mechanic so repairing the car isn't a concern to me, it just seems that some people never fix the vibration problem which concerns me a little.
Any info or ideas will be very appreciated. Thanx in advance.
Michael.
