Key fob

G'day Sully, thought you'd fallen off lol :) it's a 2000 disco 2 V8 ES.
Not sure what the part number is but I've now become a guinea pig for Discospares.com. They're gonna send me down a key free of charge, 15mhz matches with my truck but says it's not compatible so gonna see my mech & see if he can tune it in:)
As far as I'm aware the little silver blocks with the black button underneath the rubber cover cant be bought but Disco Spares has plenty of second hand keys to reclaim one :)

Yes, as long as the key fob still works and has the unique 6 digit code sticker on the PCB.
If the key was once programmed into the BCU then I don't think it would have become "unprogrammed" unless deliberately erased from the vehicle.

Yes, it was programmed to the car. I used the key to drive to the shops. Parked the car, locked it up, came back to the car, pressed the button, and nothing! Light on fob shows when I press the button.
Opened the door with key and the alarm went off, and couldn't start the car. Shut the door, and locked it with the key, and the alarm stopped.
Thought it might be the battery in the fob, so back to the shops and bought and inserted new battery. Still the same.

Got wifey to bring the spare fob from home, and that one worked fine. Got home, re-tried the "broken" fob, and the same thing happened again.

Its as though the fob has become "un-programmed" from the car somehow while I was shopping!!

Does your key look something like this, but with both buttons missing?:
My key minus one button
If so, use a pen tip to press the black rubber button in the middle of the holes.

Thats exactly what the silicon repair kit is for.
Its a fantastic fix. Have used on mine.

No mate, haven't fallen off the radar. Just been on holidays and the car is still at Range-Rov getting reapired.

OK, here's what I've found regarding the FOB. It will help you and your supplier sort it out.

Take a look at your chassis number, if you have an "XA" in the middle of it then you will have a 315mhz frequency.
If it's "YA" then you'll be in 433mhz.

Here's all of the part numbers for the FOBS:

CWE100680KIT - 433.92Mhz (NRML or LHD, Europe)
CWE100720KIT - 315Mhz (LHD-KOR, RHD-J)
CWE100700KIT - 315Mhz (AUS)
CWE100690KIT - 433.92Mhz (LHD, Europe)
CWE100710KIT - 315Mhz (LHD-RI)
CEW100710KIT - 315Mhz (LHD-CDN/MEX/USA)

If your chassis number is XA, then you'll be looking at CWW100700KIT, if it's YA, then you'll be looking at CWE100680KIT.

For this tiny piece of metal I would need to buy a Japanese key from these guys for $75.. that is folly. Surely other keys/electronic stores have the same part?:eek:

Just as a side note, I have a receipt within my service records for a replacement key, along with the part number.
I can let you know what that part number is (which will only matter if you've got an "XA" chassis number).

Only problem is that all the books are in the car, which is at the mechanic at the moment. I'm hoping it will be back within the next week and can let you know then.

Not faulty, they've just come from wrecks, $75 is better than. The $375 I was quoted for a new key. I'll keep you posted as to whether the key they send down is able to be re programed to suit.
