    Aftermarket Windows for 02D2

    Hi All,
Hope everyone is well :-) Probably another one of my odd posts here LOL!

As a follow on to my 3rd row seating thread thought I would start a new thread as the topic is different...

I was wondering whether any folk had in their travels within LR land, within Australia or Abroad ever come across aftermarket windows for the rear cargo area for a 2000 D2 that open in some way shape or form?

I'm researching into sunroofs, however windows sound like it may be easier if such a product exists....

    Any suggestions, thoughts....

    Thanks,
    Lp

Watching this one with interest, sliding windows in the back would be great for our KRT (Kid Replacement Therapy)

the 2 year old might throw something, not me LOL!!! :-p

I am aware yes, however... converting a 5 seater non air to an aired flavour.... can it even be done? Thought aftermarket windows would be a cost effective option instead...

Annoying that they make none of these with windows that open given that theres the option to install 3rd row seats or they come with them!!! I'd have thought in the UK aircon would be the last thing used - not like they have 'real' summers over there anywayS LOL...

I've so far only found a couple of companies that make sliding windows, pop out windows or non moveable windows but they are for vans - think i'll still give them a call Monday though and see what they suggest...

    cheers,
    Lp

Great thread, I've converted mine from 5 to 7 also and would like to see the outcome of this thread.

Absolutely a great thread, a question I've always wondered about, I've got the 7 seats & rear air con but some more airflow back there would be great

    Rear aircon

I've got the rear aircon in my 7 seater, and while I haven't had a close look at it, I suspect it's a totally separate, electrically powered system, separate to the front one, so shouldn't be too hard to install. Just need 12 V

Plus the vents and pipes I suppose. But at least no plumbing to the compressor in the engine bay. It's controlled by the switch in the second row, and only works when the front zones are on.

    okaaaaaaaaaayyyy...

Well - had a look @ the RAVE CD last night for the rear aircon system and while I understood what needed to be done it does look like a bit of a big undertaking. Having said that, I was quoted 1K for the rear aircon system out of an ES in kit form .... no idea if that's expensive or on the money??

I then got in contact with the sydney company re the openable windows and while I was told that there were aftermarket windows for a patrol, he would get back to me - so I am waiting for his reply from his manufacturer.

I then went on the path of calling some sunroof installers and was quoted 1100 for an aftermarket sunroof and if I wanted to get my headliner all replaced from the same company at the same time that was going to set me back 1200 for a new one (note this was only for a rear sunroof NOT two). A total seperate company quoted me 2K for an aftermarket sunroof alone!!

So my research continues.... i've also just had a brainwave and remembered that there's a cigarette plug in the rear cargo area so perhaps for the kids sitting in the back I may just go with a 12V mini car fan ?!?!?!?

Just did a google search and 1st off the rank was Koolatron 12V Mini Car Fan
buggered if I know any more but has anyone had something similar installed and how well do they work? Think i'm gonna go off and research that one now...

    Thanks,
    Lp

Wouldn't opening the rear passenger windows a little create enough airflow into the back of the car?

yes and no.... but honestly, not something where I would probably always want a window/s open only because of the ages of the little ones... been in enough 4wd's in my time as a kid at the back and know only too well how hot/stuffy it can get in the cargo area in summer / warm weather (even w/ aircon on or windows 'fully' open).... :-)
