    Rear door wont open

    Hi Guys,

    I have a 2004 D2 Td5...and my rear door has stopped working.

Please help as it is becoming extremely annoying having to reach over from the rear seats everytime.

    Thanks in advance.

Seems quite common to D2's so there quite a bit of info on this site.

I did a quick search and found this:

More info required for accurate diagnosis.
If the internal handle opens the door but the outside one does not, then it sounds like the linkage from the outside handle to the catch assembly is at fault. If this is the issue, then open the door, remove trim and have a look. It is fairly simple to remove and clean and lube the whole mechanism.

It does sometimes open after the car has been unlocked (via auto-unlock when the car is turned off).

It doesn't however open when I cycle through the lock/unlock on the fob.

I'm going to try this arvo to take of the rear door trim, does anyone know where I can find a detailed thread on how to take the trim off without breaking the clips?

I've had the rear door trim off a few times and no matter how careful - always end up breaking at least 2-3 clips. The 1st removal was a disaster where I broke nearly all of them

I now use a paint scraper and slide it down next to the clip - works well so far and the last removal to turn my wheel carrier up-side-down - I only cracked the top off 2 clips.

They are cheap by the way @ $15 for a pack of 10

If you are anywhere near a jaycar store. Do yourself a favour and get some door trim remover tools.

They are the 'Response" brand (jaycars own car audio brand) and they are awsome. From memory about $15 for a pack of 4 different types.
They are shaped like small prybar and made out of some kind of glass reinforced resin.

I have used mine heaps and they make removing trim so easy.

MIne does this thing where the handel sticks in (on the outside) so essentially when you hit the key its like the door handle is held in. I can tell when its doing it as the handle itself wont go through the motions. Its rememdied but pushing the handle into the normal postition (handle towards the door). However this could be totally off.

I had that prob on a D1, it would pop up the hand pull knob and then it would sink back down and stay locked, it wasn't the actuator but those pesky door lock springs. the springs rust and snap, tiny buggers they are, you can buy on ebay uk seller arounf $25 landed a set of 5 handed springs, fiddly at first, but once you do one the rest are easy

Ok i spent a while last night playing around with the lock and this is where im at:

    1. Bought some dry lube and gave the lock a good spray to confirm it wasn't getting jammed due to dust etc.

    2. Managed to get the door to lock and unlock 5 times using the FOB but it definitely sounded as though the locking mechanism was struggling which brings me to believe that I will need a new actuator.

    3. I have half the rear tailgate trim off without breaking any clips but am nervous about pulling the plastic off (any advice would be great).

Please if anyone knows where to buy a new actuator cheap and how to remove and install that would be fantastic

    Cheers

Wheels, had this one on my old '93 200tdi and again with our 2004TD5. sounds like the handle is sticking. Spraying WD40 up at the handle only has limited effect. Our best results were to prise the Land Rover badge off the rear door handle which gives access to a better angle to spray the WD40. Once it clicked we worked it several times and a regular spray at service time has kept it at bay ever since.
