I have a Disco 2, V8. The unit has been in for 16 Months... Used at least every other weekend and not had any issues with its placement....

I am running the compressor in the engine bay and the switches on a 'trimmed' (about 3mm too wide) arb 3 switch holder that is in the old coin /ashtray slot... and riveted to the drinks tray...

I took out the old jack /battery box and cut the battery box down to a 'tray'
Drilled a couple of holes in the shaped metal below and ran treaded tube down for support....

Hopefully the pictures will show what i mean..

Regularly gets wet and dusty/sandy underhood and no issues...

Was going to mount either under drivers side headlight area (huge space) or in 2nd battery tray but want that area for other things...

But.........Go to Jaycar or similar and buy a 12 volt computer fan.
Mount the fan to get optimum airflow over the compressor and you will not have any overheating problems.

Wire the fan directly to the compressor motor so they run together.

I mounted a ARB compressor in the engine compartment of a D2 V8 and heat shielded it.

Had to move it to the rear cabin to prevent meltdown.
tbh I don't see any need for a fan when its mounted there, there is plenty of air around it, and if your using it to inflate tyres, you have to remove the grille to plug in the airline etc, so the boot will also be open.

The under bonnet temp with a V8 engine is going to be far worse than when its mounted behind the trim panel

This was my thinking too. Also, directly above that corner of the rear trim is a huge empty space behind the upper window trim so the warm air will rise up and draw more cool air in. Kind-of like a chimney.

I mounted a switch in behind the grill with the compressor. I used the screw that holds the cargo net hooks to the trim (directly above the grill) to secure a bracket with a push switch fitted to it. I wanted a switch in the dash but couldn't see the point when I have to go to the compressor to attach the air hose anyway.
