CATS have no electrical connections, my V8 has two and as said earlier are two different shapes due to clearances on either side. There is an O2 sensor before the CAT, my mate and I have toyed with the idea of putting a pipe straight through the CATS to improve performance but give the look of CATS for legal reasons.
    Cheers Matt

...this is immensely entertaining!...and I feel less of an idiot now, that i don't even know if my Disco has a Cat!

But mystery is still not solve though....any gurus out there who can put the matter beyond question?

BTW, there's some markings and letterings on the "thing". I will crawl under tommorrow with a wire brush and see if i could find some clues.

    1. Get hole saw od same as od pipe.
    2. Weld extension onto saw.
    3. Drill hole through cat.
    4. Shove pipe through cat and weld to each end of existing pipe. Keep the new pipe cut to within 1/4"of end of cat so when you wled you can just double pass and it looks std.
    5. The "flat cat" has offset entry/exit. This is harder.

Hint 1. look for a foreign market where your model was released w/out cats. It's a model derivative then and the RTA will pass it (well mine has it noted on the rego info).

Hint 2. Based on hint 1 I have no cats. Also removes several kg's.

    Hi Clubagreenie,

Do you mean you had exactly the same thing on your TD5?...And when you "ripped the front out" did you see if there's the platinum honeycomb inside?

    thanxs!

Just so it's clear..... similar to what it's designed to do for your exhaust..... it's a DIESEL cat convertor for a TD5 fitted to some BUT NOT ALL D2a Discoverys.
Some were fitted based on pending emissions laws that were pushed back to approx 2006ish here. Subsequently SOME had cats, SOME didn't which is why mine, an MY03 did have one that I removed, and some later ones on MY04 that don't. In fact even some of the later MY02 also had them fitted.
As for the legalities of removing it, technically it wasn't an ADR requirement as there were no ADR's in place inforced by law so there is no reason why it doesn't comply with the ADR's at time of manufacture.
Diesel vehicles delivered with a cat were based on pre emptive design rules not enforced or written into law.

Would like to see this mystical cat with the electrical plug though....
