    This at least prompted me to make the tool instead of using a blunt screwdriver again. Now I must make one for the D1 too. The clear pic is just me letting the autofocus do its thing.

    Just a quick question, I refered this thread last Friday before going out bush. The main reason was that I wanted to suss out my fuel gauge behaviour and after cleaning the potentiometer, I put the pump back into the tank.

    Is it normal for the fuel pump to sit proud and needing a very good push before screwing the lock ring back on? What a mongrel to get back in!!

    Install the rubber ring in the tank, then you need to lubricate the top section of the pump assembly to enable it to slide in. I use neat dishwashing detergent myself. A fingerful of oil should do it too.
