    UK parts

So, I have read a few comments on this, but am after some more information.

Just got onto Ebay UK and found a snorkel for my Disco 2 for $150AUD and have asked for a shipping cost. If that shipping is $50 thats still over $100 cheaper than anywhere in Aus. Has anyone done this?

I regularly buy from the UK.
The only problem I have had is some people in the UK refuse to sell to Australia.
Their loss. It's not as if their trading in national treasures.
Most, however, have been a pleasure to deal with.

It can be interesting following your parcels progress around the world via transport companies websites.

You could almost classify this as a hobby at our place. My wife knows when I've been doing a bit too much shopping as there are flattened wheeltracks on the footpath from where the courier drives up to deliver stuff. Sometimes our courier stops me in the street to give me parcels as she knows my wife is at home sleeping off a night-shift. Gotta love small country town living eh?

I am a happy Britcar (UK) Ltd shopper. Ask for Oliver.
My suggestion is to try and source smaller and if possible lighter weight items from o/s. Remember the rules of dimensional weight if buying bigger items.

A recent purchase was A$350 plus A$60 postage with DHL Air Express. The total of these 25 or so items would have been somewhere in the vicinity of $600 from ebay traders...I estimate over $1000 if I gave the same list to a stealer.

I'm all for supporting Aussie and local jobs and all that, and I do when the items are cost effective to buy locally, eg. Td5 cooling system hose set $300 delivered from NSW - would've been too dear to buy from o/s due to dimensional weight rules.

Completely different to LR parts is footwear. You might have size 15 feet and find it difficult to find shoes and boots that fit - more so if they need to be wide fitting to accommodate orthotics. DAMHIKT.

So a pair of size 15 workboots might only weigh 3 kilos but the dimensional weight of them is more like 8 kilos so the postage is often more than the value of the shoes.

Check out L. R. Series - specialists in land rover, land rover series and range rover - gearbox, axle, transmission parts, spares and major units as well.

    Hi Barney,
The biggest issue you'll have getting a snorkel into Aus is the dimensions of the product. For it to be compatible with Australia Post it can't exceed 140cm girth or 105cm in length.
    Australia Post - Parcel dimensions

This means you have to go through a specialist courier such as fedex or DHL etc (which are quicker and have much better tracking, customer service and delivery times than royal mail!). Because the item is 'oversized' you do end up paying a lot more so it's best to top up with other items if possible and get your money's worth. It's not about the actual weight so much as the parcel size and it's calculated cubic weight. It also comes down to the person you buy from. If they ship internationally frequently they get better rates than someone who does it casually. Most large courier companies require you to have an account as well which is why some smaller eBay businesses won't ship international.

All of that said, we do import from the UK and have a few local customers interested in a snorkel so it's no trouble to quote for you as well - just flick us an email with the brand you're after

I too have bought items off britcar and have been very happy, postage was quick and service excellent. You can check postage prices using royal mails website using dimension data provided on britcars website, I have been very happy with item and postage prices from Britcar. I have also dealt with Hunters Land Rover, who also have an ebay store, their prices and service are very good too.
    Cheers Matt
