    Which mod / upgrade first??

    Hello,

I have not long brought a 2001 TD5 auto with 160,000km full service history and is stock as a rock, no mods and never been off road.

My question is with so many mods that can and should be done what would you recommend I do first? EGR removal ?

i wont be doing any hard core 4Wd, just touring pulling camper trailer and light 4WD e.g lake erye, roads like that

Already has the snorkle and winch bar on the way

    thanks

Here is what I'd be thinking(in the rough order)....
Engine saver(See Davy in the Verandah).
Duel battery set up(to use in conjunction the your camper).
    Tyres (Light truck rated).
Springs (subject to ride and hights when loaded).
Performance mods(Turbo-intercooler hoses/egr, then if needed chip it or larger intercooler).

Also at some stage factor in...
    Recovery gear.
Centre diff activation(if doing "harder" terain).
    UHF radio.

If doing more remote work think about....
    2nd spare.
    VHF radio.

Then maybe a roof rack and awning.
The list is equal to the depth of your pockets
    Cheers, Kyle

    Quick, simple, cheap.

    Do the EGR 3rd

... wind up the turbo wastegate 1st (increase your boost pressure) This will cost you nothing. Get another 3-5psi of boost for nix.

Fit an Enginesaver 2nd. This will cost you heaps ... if you don't

    That's your first 3 mods for $300

... then service the auto. Filter, flush, and good synthetic fluid (Transmax Z).

At 160,000 the D2 is due a major service anyway ... which at 10yrs of age, should also include stuff like all hoses, waterpump, FPR, etc, etc ... see The Good Oil forum for more details.

Have read in the good oil first before you wind up the wastegate. Too much and you will go into limp mode.

    1/ engine saver & service
    2/ Tyres
    3/ suspension.

Performance mods are at the bottom of the list.
IMO performance mods are not ideally done in part.

i.e a chip without minimum, EGT monitor/ Pyrometer is asking for trouble.
A chip without an intercooler upgrade and boost mod for towing is asking for trouble.

IMO an ECU upgrade should be done in conjunction with EGT monitor, bigger Intercooler, boost mod.

    cheers

They all do the same thing at the end of the day.
Some units are only a low water level light and buzzer.
I got the low water and heat sensor in one unit from Davy as he supports the site.
    Mine...alien's d2
The one with the readings shows numbers where mine just beeps.
    Cheers, Kyle
