Try not to get too bogged down with this decision, there is many choices (its just like tyres), for your requirements the dobinson's set up will be more than adequate, I agree with Tombie that OME have the back up which is a bonus when touring, but you can save a few hundred dollars and still be very happy with the Dobinsons set up.

We have a 2" OME lift on ours (v8) (fitted by the original owner) and I think they are great. Nice control, work well. I would reccomend them.

Hasn't seemed to have sagged atall either.

Hi Damo, Ive had OME shocks and springs fitted to My D2 TD5 for about 80 000 ks. Ive replaced the Shockies with "RAW" shocks. Raw 4x4 - Home
There not cheap but they are outstanding. Ive just come back from a trip to Lawn hill, Kingfisher camp through Normanton, Cobbold gorge, Carnarvon and back to Canberra.
I found the bigger the hole, corrugation the better they worked. I was towing a Tvan and nothing fazed either.
The shock is a massive 70mm twin tube body with a Nitrogen gas cell in the outer tube. It has a 41mm bore and Poly bushes.
The OME shocks preformed well and lasted 80 tho' , which I think is a good effort. But after the 6,000+ks Ive just done with the "Raw" shocks I'm sold on them.
    Peter.

    Hey all,

    Quick follow-up question.

So I have decided on EFS suspension for the D2. They offer 2 sets of springs for the front, and 2 for the rear.

    Front:

    1. Up to 30kg
    2. 50 - 80 kg

    Rear:
    1. Constant 100kg
    2. Constant 250 kg

I think i will be getting the constant 100kg for the rear. But what about the front? The car is a TD5 with an arb steel bar and some driving lights. Any suggestions?

    What spring rates are they?

Do you prefer soft or firm ride?

Me - I would go heavier front and rear...

Your bar alone is about 30kg + spotlights (2.5 kg) + aerial (1 kg) + second battery (18 kg) + winch (35kg) etc. Fronts will also be constant rate springs.

Sounds like the heavier is the go for the front.

As Tombie says, the poundage will determine the ride quality. Longer + lower rate = softer ride. Shorter + higher rate = firmer ride.

    Zute,

Great to here somebody getting on well with our product, i'm the engineering mananger for Raw.
I came to work with them just over a year ago because I could see great potential in the product, the shocks you have are Nitro Max, and yes they are not bad, they have a gas cell which seperates the air from the oil making them retain damping forces even at high temperatures.

Damo, Kings coils, there X5 product is very good, and you won't go wrong with either our Raw Nitro Max.
The Bilsteins I have to say are good units also as they are monotube.

    Tombie:

    LANDROVER DISCOVERY SERIES 2 - TD5 POST 03/1999 50mm Lift

Front Coil Springs: Load Bearing accessories up to 30 kg, 170 lbs/inch

Front Coil Springs: Load bearing accessories of 50kg - 80kg

Coil Springs: Constant 100 kg to GVM - Progressive rate at 240-345 lbs/inch

Coil Springs LAN-113HDE 1 PR Constant 250 kg to GVM - Progressive rate at 300-440 lbs/inch
    From the EFS catalogue.

Im not sure what ride i prefer.. all i have had is the OEM suspension. Is that a comparatively soft or firm ride? All i know is when im off roading it feels like im in a washing machine.

Bear in mind i do 90% of my driving on road.

    Cheers for all your help
