    Dual battery tray ARB

Can anyone tell me what size battery I can fit on the ARB battery tray? I have them for $68 at my local ARB store and really want to put a 120AH battery in.

So does anyone have one who can hive me dimensions of the tray and clearance to the bonnet or if they've fitted a 120ah on this tray?

    Thanks!

I think the ARB tray is designed to fit a 55ah battery.....A gentleman on here called Tombie has fitted a much larger battery, I can't remember the exact size. I'm sure with a little bit of ingenius engineering you come do the same. Maybe send him a PM....He's a very informative chap....

Can't tell you the size, but know that the battery may not last long as it is very hot in that part of the engine bay.

no help with the 120ah batt, but my optima yellow top wouldnt fit level enough without grinding a couple of grooves out for the cylinder shape of the optima... .. there is not to much room between it and the matting on the bonnet. It does come with a fitting plate that is usefull as a heatshield from the turbo, used a length of angle iron on the front edge to hold into place.

I have an 80Ah Cat Calcium in there.
ARB tray but modified restraining system.
End plate still in position as heat shield but soon to be replaced by stainless wrap around version.

The ARB tray isn't all that big and then the battery clamping arrangement robs more room. If you can make your own tray you can fit in quite a large battery.

This is one in our D2.

Also, be mindful of insulating against the turbo, for a TD5. This battery was in this position for 5 years, after having been in our TD5 Defender for 2 years prior to that.

Be careful of height in the battery choice. This arrangement is unsuitable for rear A/C D2s

    Thanks for that.

Is It ok on the side like that? What type of battery are you using? What size AH is it?

But Erich.... Huge Battery - Low Capacity.....

Great for winching, with very high pulse current... But at only 68Ah its a very expensive, low performing battery...

I had 2 in the Defender and they were hopeless......

I will find the battery number for my Cat battery (which is currently on loan in my sons 4wd)

Yep thanks. Am now planning to mount a 150ah in the rear right hand bin with a traxide controller.
