    New Auto going in

My suspicions were proved correct with my auto giving up the ghost. It is in at the mechanics getting a new auto and cooler. While it is there I am getting the CDL put in. The CDL kit has been sitting in the workshop for the past 7 months, but with the auto trouble I was having I put it off putting it in. Also new seals in the transfer as it was leaking badly. Hopefully will have it back mid week, then can not wait to head bush to try out the CDL. Not looking forward to the bill though.

I believe ZF Automatics are the gurus..... they did the auto in mine just before I bought it.
I think the previous owner paid about $4,500 fitted incl new torque converter.

Ritters is doing the work for me and putting in a recon tranny (around the $4500 mark) Talk to Andrew at Les Richmonds in Thomastown as they use a local mob for auto repairs.
Also just found some brass shims were destroyed in TC so the TC is getting a tear down to see if any more damage has been done. I do recall the TC getting a bit noisy for a few k's coming home from work one day but stopped - must have been when it happened. The oil level was a bit down so topped it up and everything appeared OK but I guess it wasn't.
It has just over 250,000 k's on it. This has been the biggestsingle outlay on repairs since new.

    Crash

I was wondering what sort of noise your TC was making. I have a noticed a sort of screaming noise that comes on about 2500 rpm which increases under load and seems linked to gear changes. Apart from the noise the transmission seems to function perfectly.

    Any advice?

    Many thanks

It did not make too much noise, a bit rattly, no screaming noise like yours only lasted a few k's then went away. I shortly stopped driving the vehicle after this episode as shifts were starting to get harsh which now seems to have been the right decision.
Hopefully pick vehicle up on Sat and find out more info as to what was wrong.
The auto has come from A&B transmissions in Melbouren, I understand that they are the ZF guru's.

The auto on my old D2 gave up at 240k and the D2a I have now had a reco put in at 264k (the previous owner put it in ) so yes, it does seem the the big 250k is a point to be concerned about.

My D2a has done 290,000kms but the auto has been serviced every 60,000kms. I hope it lasts a bit longer yet.

Yes owned since new. The auto I think missed a couple of service intervals (my own fault), but also had a couple of extras when I thought it got worked a bit hard (towing a small caravan around for 8 weeks) From a brief phone conversation with the repair guys it was rooted, full of metal. Good news it is repaired now and have a CDL to play with. The TC was also checked over while it was out and had a couple of shims replaced and a couple of bearings so Ihope it should be good for another 9 years.
