Thanks I think I will grab a genuine bolt, for the sake of a few bucks I might as well. Re the loctite I actually bought the supercheap version yesterday (dynagrip permanent threadlocker) lets just assume that will do the job. Interestingly, I ordered a genuine gasket and a couple of bits yesterday. I spoke to the LR parts guy who has done the job for some time, didnt know what I was talking about with the oil pump bolt! He's normally pretty good. Good thing we have this forum!!

    It's been done.

It isn't the current owner's first Td5, nor first Landy and he's built the odd coach and truck diesel in his time.

Lots of swear words were used when recounting the procedure to me when it was performed a few years ago.

Too many people on here have suffered undue emotional and financial distress from that bloody bolt.

Mine's nearly run in. Was there a ballpark mileage for the failure?

the blue super cheap loctite is the equivelent to loctite 243/242 and the red one 262/263.

Mine was found finger tight only at 220km - D2 04 TD5 auto. Cleaned up & loctite back in.

Doing this job on the weekend along with the first oil change for me! Was wondering if I could use loctite 518 (anaerobic gasket) in place of the RTV sealant?? And has anyone got some images on the location to put it??

    Cheers Lemo

    Tight but no Loctite

2003 TD5 (of course) just checked the bolt. Tight but no sealant.

The one thing I might have gained out of the exercise is to stop the weeping sump gasket, wet both sides with oil but the bolts were tight.

    Cheers

    Mike
