    disco td5 temp problem

I have a Discovery 2003 TD5 auto, 200K km, I seem to have a temp problem, but I’m not 100% sure if it’s the engine, gauge or electronics. Every now and then when driving along the temp gauge will increase above the normal half way on the gauge, reading towards the top of the gauge before the red. I pull over and with my infrared thermometer take various temp readings of the radiator hoses, bottom radiator hose around 60’c, top radiator hose near the engine around 80’c. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I found mine wasn't all that accurate so I installed a watch dog takes some of the worry away.Temp gauge seems to up to half way quickly and never changes much where as watch dog increases up and changes with weather and driving conditions etc mine sits on 92 most of the time. They are a must have.

Worst senerio, it could be the head gasket, have it checked, it could also be oil in the injector harness.

If you can have it checked with some diagnostic tool, if you know someone with a Nanocom or someone here on the forum is nearby they could check it for you, lots of guys here are more than willing to check it for you, there is even a list of people with diagnostic gear on the forum.

    Here ya go

Thanks, I’ve not long replaced the injector harness for the second time now. Once the engine develops a miss, we order a new injector harness.

Well, with my 04 D2a TD5 auto with 150K, my nanocom has twice in the last 2 months suddenly gone to alert on coolant temp (98 plus). Each time I have disconnected the OBL? and reconnected, and the nanocom went straight back to about 90 degrees, which is where it usually sits. First time I was quietly cruising in the burbs, and yesterday sitting on 100 in the country. Yes, I am getting a coolant temp/low coolant alert, just can't decide between the shop TM2 and the MadMan EMS.
    Might be earth connections too?

Ta. Well I hope it was fixed in the just downloaded version 1.07, because the last alarm occurred while using 1.06 and the one before that might have been 1.04 if not 1.06
