Fabrication: Safety Devices "Highlander" Roof Rack. G4 Challlenge

    Hi all.

In my excitement to own a Safety Devices "Highlander" Roof Rack for my D2 I have the following request as over the last year I have been unable to source a second hand item.

I have found an alloy and or steel fabricator who is willing to jig and template a Safety Devices "Highlander" Roof Rack for me.

Strangest request I know........ Here it is

Who ownes or who knows of a person whom ownes a Safety Devices "Highlander" Roof Rack that I could reward handsomely in a currency of their choice???

I wish to obtain on a borrowed basis, one roof rack to use as a blue print in having my own non genuine copy made for my TD5.

In the attempt to finally owning a SD roof rack I call on the help of the AULRO forum members in locating one.

My location is Brisbane but would pay to have the rack courier from interstate if the owner would be so kind.

This is prob an unreasonable ask as I am a stranger who is asking for an owner of a SD rack to trust me with their property.

    Many thanks in advance.

    Kind regards

    Craig

    Sounds nerve-racking!
By the time you add up the costs...might be worth making some enquiries to some of the bigger British wreckers and 2nd hand parts suppliers.
At a stretch (pardon the rack pun), they may even be able to source plans, or provide specifications for your Oz manufacturer.

    Already tried those avenues.

I'm that keen for one I have $2500 sitting around that I would happily hand over for a good conditioned second hand item.

It's like they never were, every one talks about them but no one has one for me to blue print or one for sale, still never met an Australian who ownes one.

Anyway thank you for your input, very kind.

    Regards

The was a thread last year about Peninsula Rangie in Victoria becoming agents for RoverRacks.

RoverRack basically do a very similar version rack to the Highlander Racks. Land Rover Discovery Series II Roof Racks

I think a figure of $950 plus $250 shipping in Aus was mentioned.

Peninsula Rangie - Motor Engineers & Repairers - Frankston, VIC - Yellow PagesĀ®

You could try calling them to see if they can source one for you.

Failing that the link Ron shared has pics with sufficent detail for you to work out how the racks differ from the RoverRacks clones. You should be able to come up with something very close from the two sources.

    cheers
    Paul

I hate to imagine what freight on these from the US would be...

Darren from Peninsula Rangie has not been able to assist in supplying RoverRacks. I have been attempting to deal with him since last year to purchase a RoverRack low profile. He doesn't know when he will have stock, when he knows a container is soon to arrive he doesn't know what models/stock will actually be in it. He is unable to order the model you want. He is unable to get any of the additional options that RoverRack supply. His freight cost is $350.00 to move the rack from Victoria to Tasmania. And to top it off, he either doesn't know, or won't tell me the prices of any of the racks. Maybe you'll have better luck, but I ended up buying a second hand cheapie rather than the RoverRack that I wanted...

I have also tried dealing with Rover Rack directly, but they just refer me onto Darren...
