Just so you know A 265/70/16 is only around 3.5mm bigger in diameter than a 245/75/16.

Let's not talk about egr removal kits, also illegal as are many other mods. So the correct wheel spacers like the terrafirma centre spigot type which are legal overseas, but not here, are no worse or better than the other "illegals".

Again fellas, just my 2 c worth.

Just get it engineered. If its all done properly it's just a matter of process - but thats if it's done properly. Mine is engineered for 285/75 and also the bigger muds, allowed because of a 2 speed setting speedo corrector. Fortunately the rules are not retrospective.

What meaurement is it that a 265/75-16 is more than 50mm larger than even a 235/70-16 ???

    Standard Sizes
    70% x 235 = 164.5 sidewall
    65% x 255 = 165.75 sidewall

    Over-size
    75% x 245 = 183.74 sidewall
    70% x 265 = 185.5 sidewall
    75% x 265 = 198.75 sidewall

The biggest (265/75-16) is only 10mm wider, and 32.75 mm higher in profile (sidewall height, so not sure how you get 50mm from there but i'm happy to be proved wrong if it saves me a fine next time i get tyres

I know literally loads of people that run 265/75-16 on +2" D2's with no problems at all, not even from the coppers.

    Cheers
    Will

Adit: Unless the law is on diameter, which makes them 15.5mm over ...

I've been running 245/75R16s for many years now and am happy with the size. I've had an exceptionally good run with Cooper STs in all types of terrain including the GRR. The price has been similar to the common alternatives. A year ago I changed to STTs, and so far I have been delighted with them (barely discernable wear after 15k including a trip down the Sandy Blight Junction Track). In the 245/75 size they look the ducks guts too. They cost $270 each fitted, which I think is reasonable (given Australian prices are way more than you'd pay in the US for instance). They slip in the wet more than the OEM Michelins, but hey, so what.

I'm currently running 245/75x16 ST maxx's and I'm very pleased with them. I've had two sets of STT's 265/70 and would have used this size, but the maxx's didn't come in that size.
My fuel economy has improved a little with the narrower size though. And they don't rub on full lock as the 265/70 's did.
Never, never had any issues with the coppers. Much better tyre than the BFG AT, and I've had a few sets of them (with no issues either ).

When I've seen tyre issues on fourbies, offen it been old tyres. They say tyres only have a life of three years. How old are your trailer tyres ?

Normal, couldn't get LT in that size, but I haven't had problems with side wall strength

    Bridgestone dueler 697

Just about to commit to Bridgestone dueler 697 245/75r16 for $275 per tyre
For same price can have grabber AT, or for $20 less maxis 980.
Am I picking the right tyre? Discovery2 sand dry clay and gravel driving 30% off Tarmac.

The Dueler is a good all round AT tyre, Ive been using them for the last four years on my TD5, they are not a hard core off road tyre - but really quite good on gravel, and hard dry surfaces, get a bit spinney in wet mud, etc , and more than reasonable back on the tar for the drive home.

It is only an extra 5% circumference but the TD5 is not exactly overpowered! Are there any rub problems at this size?

    Thanks again for your thoughts.
    Not sure about a D2 but I can report that on a D1 with a 50mm lift the 245/75/16s rub (I know), but I understand the 245/70/16 doesn't rub.

I'm currenty running a set of half-worn 245/75/16 Goodyear MTRs, which are noisy on road, but good on the dirt. The plan is the next set will be ATs in LT in 245/70/16 and the short-list is:

BFG AT - had these previously - excellent all-rounders
Pirelli Scorpion ATRs - youngest heir had these on his previous truck and they were pretty good, except in mud
Cooper Discoverer ST Maxx - the youngest heir has these on his current truck - pretty good so far
General Grabber AT - very popular in the UK
Yokohama Geolander ATR - BIL has these on his Triton and they've been good so far
Bridgestone Dueller D697 - good reports as an all-rounder
Maxis - no experience with these, but will check them out
Hankoks - again no experience, but heard some good things
