Unusual starting D2
hi all,
Have a Disco 2 td5 auto with a slight starting problem which appears rarely approx once or twice per yr. what effectively happens is when i turn off the engine and then come back some time later the motor will rotate on ignition but will fail to start. the engine cranks fine, battery is new, so not a prob with cranking but igniting. assuming has to be an air blockage or fuel starving. how i manage to start the car is by doing the purge reset meaning i turn ignition to 'II' for 30sec then 'I' for 5secs repeated 5-6 times and always fires up. have done this procedure on approx 4-5 times now in recents years and never fails to start.
what could be the prob, anyone else experience this ??? has to be fuel starving, fuel filter changed every year but is there another fuel filter somewhere in the system that perhaps as some contamination needing cleaning or just the one in the rear near the tank. any suggestions welcomed.

Although its usually obvious - Check that there isn't a fuel leak in the pressurised fuel pipe that runs from the pump to the engine. It commonly rubs through where it crosses the chassis up behind the fuel filter.

I get this problem very rarely.
Shut the doors & windows, lock it & unlock it with the key fob then start.
Works every time.

happened to me twice in the last 6 months. My solution has been to let it sit for 30 secs to a minute, after which it starts fine. No idea what causes it, but its a bit embarrassing when a mate in a hilux is right next to me when it happens
