			Strange ABS Module Damage

					Hi Guys,
I was giving the D2 a clean today after a days 4 wheel driving. I popped the bonnet and was giving the engine bay a look over for anything amiss and I spotted that one of the small brass discs that are on the top of the ABS Module was lifted up on one side. It appears that the head of one of the two allen head retaining bolts has sheared off.
See pic below.

My question is, can I just remove the brass cover and replace the allen bolt or will I need to re-bleed the system again?
Another query is, why did this happen?? The traction control had a pretty good workout whilst wheeling....was this the cause???
Regards Dave

The discs were fitted as a recall modification to "reinforce the ABS modulator pressure reduction valve reaction plates".
Apparently it was discovered without the reinforcement the reaction plates could crack and leak leading to increased pedal travel and reduced stopping force for a given pedal input. This was found to occur on vehicles that were used extensively off-road.
I'd be concerned about what damage has been done to the reaction plate below the reinforcing plate if the pressure on the top plate has broken the bolt.
That said you should be able to pull the allen bolts and replace them without any bleeding if there is no underlying damage.
cheers
Paul

Thanks for the valuable input Paul....The D2 is not a daily driver any more and for the past few months has only been used for off road fun when I'm home on R&R.
I never noticed any reduction in pedal travel or faulty braking....and there was no dash lights or any other symptoms indicating a damaged or faulty ABS system. Hopefully, all is good and I'll attempt to replace the alllen bolt shortly.
Fingers crossed....
Dave

Well, tried to remove the sheared bolts and no luck. Looks like it might be easier just to buy a second hand ABS Module and do the option B mod while I'm at it.
If any one has any other ideas, thoughts or opinions, I'm all ears....

I'm not suggesting that Land Rover will cover this repair but if you're close to a dealer, I'd be dropping in with your vehicle details & some photos to show them.

After all, this was the subject of a recall (A148) & if the fix isn't up to the job, then I think Land Rover should be made aware of it.

You never know, they might want to have it repaired under the recall.

Thanks for the advice Scouse. I'm going to head up to my local dealer in the next hour or so. I'll do as you suggest and show them some photos.
I'll keep you informed as to what they say about the issue.
Afterall, it could have caused a serious accident.
Thanks Dave
