Front tailshaft, cdl, two primary areas of concern. One fails and costs a lot, the other may not be fitted and costs a lot to fit.
About 30-40 min depending on traffic (could be 20 could be 2 hours in sydney). Inspection? I looked at one for Michelle1976 here, 2000model with 90,000k's, immaculate except for front tailshaft. I only drove it 400m, 200 out, 200 back to the dealer and explained why it should never be driven again until fixed. She got it repaired under the term of sale so saved $600- + labour for a woods shaft.
I can have a look if you like if there's one you're interested in. And depending on interchangability I might have a set of CDL internals available.
Can anyone advise if D1 CDL internals suit D2's? And if so is there a difference between Manual & Auto units (suspect not but best be sure).
I put a d1 actuator setup in my 99 d2 a few years back, bit of work but can be done. No difference between auto and manual that I'm aware of
Not so much the actuator, though I've heard reports that the D1, if mounted to the body vibrates as it's hard linked. And doesn't line up as mounted on the gearbox it'd in the wrong position.
The CDL internals, Is it just the dog gear and output shaft or the whole centre diff assy, output cover and shaft that need be swapped?
iirc the d1 does not have the hi/lo switch so would need tapping for starters.
then you have the hi/lo linkages which different.
:)
But the spigot is in the same spot and the same size for the short lever that the linkage/cable attaches to. I have the lever on mine off a D1 to allow it to be turned by hand (no shifter mod!).
But again, fitting the D1 internals into the D2/2a case, output shaft/dog gear/selector only or centre diff/output cover/output shaft/selector? Plus the shifter as well. BUT as per original question, what internals are needed? I have 2 D1 manual tfrs with CDL's, keeping one spare for me and may forward on a complete unit or just the CDL mech to someone less fortunate.
