What the ?!?!
I'm in the process of doing a Old Man Emu shocks and Though Dog springs 40-50mm lift, and now I'm getting a little worried about this cross-member statement.
Bell1975, why?
I've searched, read and read before I put my money down and never read or heard anyone saying that the cross-member needs to be dropped.
Can you point me to some reference(s) regarding the cross-member, please?
Cheers.
A lift of more than 40mm will generally result in the front drive shaft hitting the cross member.
In essence, it's just a piece of steel wedged in between the cross member and that chassis rails.
You could make it yourself, or get a kit piece.
No dramas really, just unbolt crossmember, add spacer, re bolt cross member on.
I'm assuming you don't need an engingeers certificate or anything for a cross member spacer, but I may be wrong.
The lift doesn't make the front propshaft hit the Xmember, it has to do with the open length of the front shocks allowing the suspension to drop far enough to make contact. There are many lifts at 50mm that don't have this problem. If you're running upto a 50mm lift and have to space the Xmember down then I'd be questioning the shock lengths that you're running on the front - unless you have set it up deliberately like that.
