    What the ?!?!

I'm in the process of doing a Old Man Emu shocks and Though Dog springs 40-50mm lift, and now I'm getting a little worried about this cross-member statement.

    Bell1975, why?

I've searched, read and read before I put my money down and never read or heard anyone saying that the cross-member needs to be dropped.

Can you point me to some reference(s) regarding the cross-member, please?

    Cheers.

A lift of more than 40mm will generally result in the front drive shaft hitting the cross member.
In essence, it's just a piece of steel wedged in between the cross member and that chassis rails.
You could make it yourself, or get a kit piece.
No dramas really, just unbolt crossmember, add spacer, re bolt cross member on.
I'm assuming you don't need an engingeers certificate or anything for a cross member spacer, but I may be wrong.

    Right, cool.

Engineer certificate... I don't know. I thought, in NSW, up to 50mm you don't need it certified - but I'm guessing here.

Hopefully, soon, I'll get it in and try to take pictures.

    Thank you for your reply.

    Cheers.

More like thank you, I hadn't even considered the cross member as an issue.
No dramas mate, best of luck with it.

The lift doesn't make the front propshaft hit the Xmember, it has to do with the open length of the front shocks allowing the suspension to drop far enough to make contact. There are many lifts at 50mm that don't have this problem. If you're running upto a 50mm lift and have to space the Xmember down then I'd be questioning the shock lengths that you're running on the front - unless you have set it up deliberately like that.

Quite a few people/4x4 shops have told me that it is quite safe to go 40mm and not have to worry about panhard, castor correction...

I guess, I'll find out soon.

    Cheers.

Absolutely, it will go beyond that and still be fine in those areas. I run 4" without any panhard or castor modifications and its fine.

Gives you a bit more length to the lines and will prevent any unecessary strain "stretch" to the lines. While I was at it I put some plastic tubing around the lines where they came in contact with the chassi to prevent any chaffing.
