Thread: Alternate 2nd battery location in engine bay?

If you put your jack somewhere else, you can fit two batteries in the same place the current one is, but it requires a little fabrication.

Thanks Jafir. I am aware of this option, but the limits to battery size both here and on the ARB tray have me looking for alternatives ( 7 seater so no rear lockers) as I'm looking at something like an N70T or similar (100 ah plus).
The main issues with my idea as I see it are:
- will the air cleaner box survive near the turbo with/without a heat shield?
- rerouting the air intake hoses
- modifying my safari snorkel so it enters the engine bay further back. This should be achievable by doing a cut&shut on the snorkel, plastic welding it back together & either bogging up or fitting a vent over the original hole in the wing.
- other issues I haven't thought of
It's the first & last points I'm hoping for help with.

I presume you have SLS, but if you don't have ACE, you could mount and AGM battery under the car on the opposite side to the SLS compressor, a bit like this:

You can buy drop down battery carriers that may suit. eg like this: http://performancewarehouse.com.au/i...product_id=221

That way you keep the battery away from the heat of the turbo - but it's closer to rocks and water!

I have a dual battery tray from Aedofab in place of the original battery and jack.

I have been running two Optima 55AH batteries, however there are a couple of options for batteries I have found that should fit in the same place.

• 2 x Optima D34 batteries @ 55AH each (110AH total)
• 2 x Odyssey 34/78 PC1500 @ 68AH each (136AH total)
• 2 x Ultimate UL80 batteries @ 80AH each (160AH total)

The Ultimate UL80 batteries are the ones I am looking at in the next few of weeks to replace my Optima's (the Optima's will be turned into a power pack for use in camp with solar charge etc).

The UL80 currently is not rated for under bonnet use, however the new version rated for this should be out in the next few weeks.

Physically the UL80 is only slightly larger than the Optima by around 10mm.

Chris, I take it then that a pair of the slightly larger Optima 31's would not fit?
