Thanks for your replies. I would probably renew the airbags as soon as possible so wear shouldn`t be an issue.Other than checking the maintainence records what else should i be looking for in a 10 + year old vehicle?.... cheers

I had D2s with coils & others with air bags.Didn't mind either, but coils would be my choice as less to go wrong.
Although air bags are better if carrying loads as the vehicle self levels.I never had a failure with the air bags.

In relation to a 10yr+ old D2,search is your friend, heaps of onfo on here about common issues.

Good service records are a must & a good check over by an independent Land Rover specialist is also very important( MR auto at Redcliffe are the go)

Coilers were extremely well set up and handled beautifully. I find for towing a nose weight of around or over 180kg that my coil rite bags are helpful though.

    Cheers

I like the sls . I have had a d2 with coils and polyair bag inserts and now have one with sls .

It is much less efort(i.e. , none) to get a level ride when towing or loading up the rear than it is with coils.

I also find the lowering option very handy for loading up the vehicle and for when camping.

I did have an explosive failier the other day and was lucky to get a replacement where i was . If i go to a remote location now i will have a spare onboard .

I do a lot of towing and bush work and find the sls very helpful and i will not change to ciols.

Simple, air bags are better, coils are more reliable. Carry a spare bag and a means of inflating bags without onboard compressor. When I go bush I tow a camper, I have air bags and would never go coils. I also have ACE 2 inch lift and 32 inch tyres. A setup very hard to beat.

I love my SLS, I did have issues early on, but only because they were old. New ones put in (around 3-4 yrs now) & havent had any issues since. I have been camping, loading the back full of gear, bum just pumps back up & all good!
Jan this year, went up to Cameron corner, Innaminka towing a Vista RV, no issues. Just came back from Ayres Rock via Ooodnatatta Track towing a Tvan (6300k's) no issues. I love them & would recommend them. I do take an old one in the back as part of my spares kit but havent needed it yet (touch wood!!)

I switched off SLS and added coils with a 1 inch lift when my last bag started to leak

We feel no difference with the ride. But peace of mind is priceless given my car is coming up 13 years old.

Well did the conversion and thus far all seems good, bit happier. I also through the polyairs in. Just need to get it hooked up to a nanocom or similar to turn off the sls.
