    Locked out

    Hi there,

Through a comedy/tragedy of errors I'm locked out of my car with both keys inside and an engel running. I've got the Emergency Key Access code and a locksmith is on his/her way over.

My owner's manual is inside the car so I've been reading the instructions for the EKA sequence in Rave: there's the Australian version for the MY99 and an MY03 export. Mine's an MY03 (D2a) so I've started with that.

My query pertains to whether or not I have to wait 5 minutes after successfully entering the EKA code before opening the door. The MY99/Australian instructions don't mention it but the 03 version does. The security card for my vehicle doesn't mention the 5 minute wait.

    Does anyone know?

    cheers,

    bidds

    Hi Bidds,

I have an 03 and although the instructions says you do have to wait 5 minutes, you do not actually have to.

One you follow the EKA sequence you can go ahead and open and start the car without waiting any time. I have tested this several times.

    Cheers

If both keys are in the car, you won't need the EKA code. It's only for disabling the security system.
The door locks are mechanical so you just need to get a key cut or have the locksmith break in.

Unless of course the D2 has Superlocking but I don't think it has.

    Thanks Simon & Scouse,

The locksmith said they couldn't unlock using the EKA process as they don't have the key and couldn't make one unless I had the code for the shape of the key as opposed to the EKA - of course that's not written anywhere.

So she ended up using an airbag to separate the window frame from the car and insert a tool (long piece of wire) to press the unlock switch on the dash. It required two people the get the airbag in and was still very difficult. She said it is one of the more secure cars around- nice but kind of annoying this morning!

The only reason it opened, I think, is because one of the keys was in the ignition and turned to ACC, to run the fridge while loading everything else. It was an accidental press of the dash button that locked the car (by our new dog - don't ask) so super locking (the D2 does have it) was not activated. If it was it might not have worked out so well. Mind you, the black stuff on the b pillar is now pretty trashed. It looks like some kind of sticker so I might be able to replace it.

    Thanks again for the replies!

Youll have to train the dog to push the other side of the button to unlock the car as well!

Get someone to check Microcat. I recall seeing the blackout stickers for the pillars listed in one of the diagrams. Possibly same pages as the a-pillar trims.

And don't think you're the only one to get locked out of your car by your dog. I always leave a window down far enough to reach in and unlock it, and I keep a copy of my door key in my wallet.

Simple fix Relegate Muttly to the cargo area! Enforce said relegation with a stout cudgel!!! And when all is said and done isnt it against some law or other to leave a pooch, cat, or child(sometimes they all seem the same! ) in an unattended vehicle?

Did it get very noisy after you did that?
